Hi,
I see this group is quite active.
Therefore i find it sad no one took the time to look into my espeak
question.
Is it possible to port espeak to kaios? if so, is someone willing to do
it? if not, why is it impossible?
best regards, Dick

Try this website -: https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/ , I am not a pro in making apps but this can be an alternative of Espeak 👍🏻 because right now Espeak can be time taking project for professional as well so you can try this website.

Hi,
this suggestion will not work. I need the speech output to work with the
readout feature of kaios(a feature that reads everything on screen while
navigating the phone). to make readout use another text-to-speech engine
it has to be a system-wide engine that is automatically called when a
language is selected(for exampel it would have to use the dutch voice
options in espeak when dutch is selected). at the momet the built-in pico
tts english voice is used whe dutch is selected, which makes a unusable
speech output in dutch language.
Of course i can use my phone in english language, but this will not help
reading or writing text messages.
a website like you suggested is only usable to read textfiles, not to be
the system-wide voice of the readout screenreader of kaios.
Kaios is not interested in fixing this issues because they bring not much
money, but i had hope professionnals in this group would liek to make this
possible, but none of them even replies to my question.
Best regards, Dick

Dear Dick,
I'm sorry to disappoint you but on this forum there are few professionals (and I'm not one of them). This is the truth.
Everything that is done on this forum is in parallel with what KaiosTech should do and what it does not do (not to mention the fact that nobody pays us, we do everything with passion, while KaiosTech receives millionaire funding from Google and co.). I would like to be able to help you, as I would like everyone to have freely what they want from their devices ... but unfortunately I repeat: here the demand is higher than the offer and the workforce is scarce and free. Don't take it out on us, we are all people in need of something in this group ... and we are here just because KaiosTech or others around it don't listen to us, the final-users! We only serve to enrich them ... but the problems still remain! And they always load useless and immature apps in the store!
If they considered this forum and all the work done on the B-Hackers Store, they would probably understand that users have needs! But this they don't! They pretend not to see us and continue to block devices to prevent to upload and develop third-party apps!
I hope your request is met soon ... but today those few professionals are trying to remedy all this shame.
The speech is closed!

Ivan

Hello Dick,

the readout function of kaios devices is based on Pico TTS. On my nokia 8110 this option is available from Webide.
There are only 5 languages available, Dutch is not included.

On the device, the binaries for TTS are located in /system/tts/lang_pico
