I successfully flashed a modified boot partition and got it to boot, however I am not getting it to show up on the ADB Devices list on my computer after enabling via web2dev. Can you summarize your changes? Did you do both boot partition changes as well as recovery partition changes according to bananahackers.net?

I did make sure that the adbd executable had permissions 777 (read/write/execute all allowed) and did only the boot partition changes. I tried both the GerdaOS adbd as well as the adbd from the 8k boot patcher. No luck yet.

All you need to modify is boot.img. I did *#*#33284#*#* then w2d.bananahackers.net.  I was having a problem getting adb at all. What I did was use adbd from the Luxferre link and made sure it was executable. All you need is the modifications from https://gitlab.com/suborg/8k-boot-patcher/-/blob/master/bootpatch.sh. View the bootpatch.sh script and make those changes to default.prop, init.rc,  init.qcom.early_boot.sh and add " androidboot.selinux=permissive enforcing=0" to end of "cmdline" line in boot.json. if you open a teminal in the folder you can cut and paste. That script does not mod ro.adb.secure=0. make sure you modify that. I hope all that makes sense.

Ordinally I through the kitchen sink at this phone. After I got adb root, today I did a factory reset and did everything in my last post and I got adb root again. rebooted the phone and root was intact.

I think the only things I haven't done there are the 33284 code and adding the modification to boot.json - I hope that's my issue! I won't be able to test for a couple more hours though, I'll definitely post whether I can manage to get it or not.

Thanks for the tips!

Success! (I think... I need to re-do my webide setup because firefox apparently forced an update on me...) "adb root" returns "already running as root"!

So just for clarity, I think the issue was I didn't do the boot.json modification. I did not do the 33284 debug code; I only used web2dev.
What I did:

Unpack boot.img using the Android boot image editor that you linked

default.prop:
  • ro.secure=1 --> ro.secure=0
  • ro.debuggable=1 --> ro.debuggable=0
  • security.perf_harden=1 --> security.perf_harden=0
  • ro.adb.secure=1 --> ro.adb.secure=0
init.rc:
  • comment out the line "setprop selinux.reload_policy 1
  • Add to the end of the file: "setenforce 0"
boot.json:
  • Add to the end of the "cmdline" line: " androidboot.selinux=permissive enforcing=0"
  • ^^ (I believe this is what I was missing, I had done everything else before)
sbin/adbd:
  • replace with rooted adbd from the 8kbootpatcher (remains to be seen if the gerdaOS file will work as well), ensuring it has executable permissions set.
Repack the boot image with Android Boot Image Editor, load with EDL.

Done!

Sweet little jailbreak. Take the 4052R out of the locked devices category.

It really is a pretty easy process once you know how to do it, isn't it? ;-P

Is this really how you represent your business? With adding nothing to a conversation but snark and snide remarks?

I have the link to kaiosrt for WebIDE on Ubuntu.
I found it works better than Firefox 59 or Palemoon.

I went ahead and added the above root procedure to the BH wiki and moved the device out of the "locked" category: https://wiki.bananahackers.net/en/deviceshttps://wiki.bananahackers.net/devices/alcatel-4052rcwz

I hope that's ok!

One more note, I just received a 4052C (cricket version) and the firehose works just fine on it as well. In fact, I just went ahead and used the boot partition backup from my 4052R to root the 4052C, and it worked flawlessly, so they really are interchangeable in that way.
