Hi all

First and foremost I want to thank everyone involved in the bananahackers community for doing such extensive research and publishing all this great info about kaiOS feature phones. I've had a lot of great fun sideloading apps, rooting, editing my Nokia 8110.

Yesterday I decided to install GerdaOS on my Nokia. All the steps worked completely fine, I had root access and was able to flash the recovery system, backup some files via ADB Shell, etc...

However, when restarting to the Gerda Recovery, I was completely unable to install the GerdaOS from my SD Card. I've tried:
  • Apply update from SD card
  • Apply update from SD card after "Mount /system"
  • Completely wiping my phone and trying again (no success)
Then after installing from the Gerda Recovery options failed, I have tried cloning the repository and running "make" or "make deploy" while inside recovery mode and connected. This also gives Errors.

right now, Gerda OS is not installed, however when booting my phone I do already see our good friend Tux (the Linux penguin). This however is the only thing that changed.

I have added some pictures from the failed SD card install and failed "make" command install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again to everyone involved.

Wout

Sorry for the late reply 😅 GerdaOS is sort of deprecated and not recommended, as it's getting old and most of the modifications can be done on stock v17.

You're currently stuck on Tux since you've successfully overwritten /boot, but haven't installed /system yet (KaiOS boot process requires integrity between /boot and /system). As the instruction on gerda.tech suggests, have you attempted to "sideload" system.new.img over adb sideload, or install the installer ZIP file in stock KaiOS Recovery?

Another way of force writing the partition is over EDL mode, which would require a little more extensive setup. But from there, getting /system to write is as seamless as python3 edl.py w system system.new.img -loader 8110.mbn
