Following the steps HERE did not work for me to get the Privledged Reset.
Pressing "#" when omnisd loaded did/does nothing.
I sideloaded via WEBIDE Wallace and pressed "#" at the "ROOT_ME" screen, which gave the prompt to do the reset.
I have developer menu in settings now, and enabled debugger in that menu and proceeded to reinstall omnisd as per the rest of the instructions in the above link.
OmniSD will open, but no buttons work, it appears frozen, just like many other apps...
I wonder if it is because WEBIDE says OmniSD is a "certified app"

I am able to sideload via FireFox 59ESR WebIDE various applications from the BananaHackers Store.

They appear in my menu on my phone, but for instance "FoxCasts Lite" opens and just hangs at a white screen.

Google Assistant sideloaded gives just a black screen.

Youtube app loads (I can see a video to click, menu buttons, etc) but I cannot navigate, nor do any soft buttons work.

Small Video game called "Icebreaker" loads and functions with no issues (It only has privledged permissions)

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Hi. Since most of the apps in the store use some of the Web APIs / ES6 features present in KaiOS 2.5 (where the userspace is based upon Gecko 48) and absent in KaiOS 1.0 (where the userspace, IIRC, is based upon Gecko 36), they might not work without explicit adaptation (if possible) specific to that older version.

In such case, wouldn't porting the API from another device running 2.5 be an easier solution?
(There's an Alcatel Tracfone - 405dl, similar hardware, but running on KaiOS 2.5)

Process is probably similar to what was done in the past with 8110, to update v12 with v13's API.

That's true. You should try to replace the /system/kaios folder with this one https://drive.google.com/open?id=1oTrLf-_l1xzLVUXFMg32kSur9m3Gk24B its from v16 Nokia 8110 4G
Remember to do a backup first of the existing folder

Hello Ivan,

I'll attempt that now and report back.
Logging into adb shell, there is no folder named kaios within the system folder.
Hoping the different SOC's don't make a difference. 8905 for the 8110 versus the 8909 in the Flip 2

Thank you.

I updated the system/b2g/webapps/ with v12 application zips for settings via this thread
And the phone now boots up with a NOKIA logo and hangs.

Sadly I also installed the GerdaOS recovery, which is also a completely blank screen (though has ADB access)

Got a feeling I should probably, toss the phone in the trash.
Would anyone like to pay for shipping, if they'd like an AT&T Cingular Flip with the above issues for testing on?

I would suggest that you don't try doing this before you have a complete system.img backup + a working firehose loader, otherwise, if this test will damage your system how will you revert back...?

Exactly what happened :P
I did get a recovery-backup.img
and a system-backup.img from the steps followed in the above link.
I just can't get into the bad recovery now to fix itself, not gain root to fix the other mistakes :&

Oh well, I shouldn't have meddled with things above my head!

Forgive me, but from the first post you made me understand that you can still access the system and get root privileges using Wallace, right?
  1. If you want to reinstall the old recovery you can use your backup
    dd if=/sdcard/recovery-backup.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery
  2. To individually restore the parts of the system you have edited, extract the files you need from your system-backup.img and when the system is booted, mount and replace
    mount -o remount,rw /system
    cp -fR /sdcard/webapps /system/b2g
    cp
    -f /sdcard
    /install-recovery.sh /system/bin
obviously you must first extract the above mentioned files and folders from the relative paths and put them on the sd card, then reboot

Now that the changed API doesn't work, he is probably stuck in a boot-loop or the phone freezes at the welcome screen.

So, even if adb works, he won't have root access as long as he doesn't click ROOT_ME in Wallace, which he can't...

In such case, the easiest (and probably only) way, would be by re-flashing the system.img backup in EDL mode - iirc, Luxferre uploaded the right firehose loader for the Alcatel Cingular.

I know that this isn't your model, but you can take a try https://firmwarefile.com/alcatel-go-flip-4044n

If he has a backup from his system partition, I believe it is safer to just reflash the system with Miracle box etc. (He just needs the right firehose loader, which I understand is included in the available pack of loaders).

Well I'm back since I was bored and figured I'd give the EDL flash a try via the Qualcomm tool.

I'm getting an error: "ERROR: function: sahara_rx_data:237 Unable to read packet header. Only read 0 bytes."

Regardless of which .mbn I use. The alcF as mentioned on the device page on bananahackers.net as well as the mbn in the 4044N package.
Googling a solution has not come up with anything useful yet...

FOR FUTURE READERS OF THIS:

The alcF.mbn must be moved into the 4044N Firmware Folder.
Have QFIL options all filled out and have your cursor over the "download" button.
THEN put the phone into EDL Download mode and as soon as QFIL shows Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM#)
Click Download.

All flashed finally.

But now the phone won't turn on at all LOL!
