Was surprised to see Salinger totally overlooked at the new museum in Chicago. There's an interactive station where you can create a personalized bookmark with your five favorite books. I typed in Salinger and four Salinger names came up (none of which I recognized). I tried again. And again. Puzzled, I went back and looked through the 70 or so placards dedicated to American authors, arranged by birthdate. There were many names I did not recognize. No J.D. in the lineup around the year 1919. Nothing. I asked the young woman at the admission desk why he wasn't included. She hemmed and hawed about a committee making the selections and said they were working on it. Seems like a huge oversight to me. And one that should be corrected ASAP. Seems like at least getting him into the database for the name comes up wouldn't be that difficult. Maybe they'll have to delete someone to fit him on the wall of American authors but he should certainly be included.

That is seriously weird, yeah. Catcher in the Rye by itself is iconic.

I like to think the spirit of JD had something to do with it.
