Policy Proposals for MM26

Policy Commission Task Description

A policy commission is composed of three members; 2 representatives of the NMOs and one Liaison Officer. The proposer of the policy draft is part of the Policy Commission and is responsible for appointing its members,  according to the IFMSA Constitution and Bylaws (article 17.2c). There will be one Policy Commission appointed per policy document, with two NMO representatives per Commission

The task description of the Policy Commissions are stated in the IFMSA Constitution and Bylaws (article 17.2c):

  • They are responsible for the quality of the policy document with the approval of the proposer.

  • Ensuring the content is based on global evidence.

  • Collecting and incorporating NMO feedback after the call for input.

  • Coordinating the discussion during the General Assembly Meeting.*

This includes a review of the policy draft for relevance, applicability, scientific accuracy, grammar and any potential areas of controversy along with the review of the references and cross-checking in literature. This means that you will review the policy draft, written by the policy Small Working Group, and assess if it abides by the criteria needed for a quality policy document. Moreover, you will review the input provided by the NMOs. Based on these reviews, the Policy Commission will finalize the policy document for submission to the General Assembly!

*Please note that it’s not necessary to have attended the General Assembly to apply for a Policy Commission.

Policy Reviewing Committee Task Description

The PRC is composed of: 3-5* representatives of the NMOs and the Vice-President for External Affairs. According to the IFMSA Constitution and Bylaws (article 17.2d), the PRC is responsible for a submission of a report to the IFMSA Executive Board and the NMOs, which has to include a review of all submitted policy documents, final recommendations and the reasoning behind said points to the General Assembly. This report supports informed decision-making during the General Assembly. The PRC will review all policy documents.

*Please note that Alumni can apply to be part of the Policy Reviewing Committee

Selection Criteria

Applications will be scored based on the following criteria for both PRC and PC:

  • Motivation to contribute to the PC or the PRC;

  • Personal experience in policy making;

  • Availability from the 28th of December onwards for PCs and from the 7th of December onwards for the PRC;

  • Gender and regional balance will also be highly taken into account.

Moreover, the applicants for PC will additionally be scored based on:

  • Experience on the topic of the policy document (depending on which you are applying for);

  • Your NMO’s experience in policy making (related to a national policy process, IFMSA’s policy process or any other policy processes).

Should you have any questions regarding the application process, please don’t hesitate to contact me at pa...@ifmsa.org
