Dear IFMSA family and SRHR advocates,

I am thrilled to announce the opening of the call to join the IFMSA delegation to the United Nations 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), taking place from March 9 to 20, 2026, in New York, United States.

About the Commission:

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women. During the Commission’s session, representatives of UN Member States, civil society organizations, and UN entities discussed progress and gaps in implementing the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the key global policy document on gender equality. Member States agree on further actions to accelerate progress and promote women’s enjoyment of their political, economic, and social rights.

The meeting will occur from the 9th to the 20th of March 2026 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States of America.

This session will focus on two themes:

  • Priority theme: Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, and addressing structural barriers.

  • Review theme: Women’s full and effective participation and decision making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls (agreed conclusions of the sixty-fifth session).

About the IFMSA delegation.

The delegation will consist of 19 IFMSA members and be led by the LRA (20 delegates overall)
