Dear IFMSA members,

I am pleased to announce that IFMSA will participate in the 18th World Conference in Bioethics, Medical Ethics and Health Law, which will take place from September 28th to 30th, 2026, in Porto, Portugal.


What is the World Conference in Bioethics, Medical Ethics and Health Law?

Organized by the International Chair in Bioethics (ICB), this congress is a premier global forum for experts to discuss the intersection of medicine, law, and ethics. The 2026 edition in Porto will focus on addressing modern ethical challenges, including the impact of scientific innovation and healthcare policy on global society.

If you are interested in bioethics, medical law, the ethics of AI, or global health policy, this congress offers a unique opportunity to engage with international experts. For more information, please visit the official website [LINK].


Selection Criteria

All applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Student Status: Only students, or those who have had student status within the past 6 months, are eligible. 

  • IFMSA Membership: Only IFMSA members from active NMOs are eligible.

  • Relevant Experience: Experience related to medical education, human rights, bioethics, medical ethics, health law, research, or global health.

  • Motivation: Your personal interest in the themes of the congress.

  • Policy & Advocacy: Understanding of IFMSA policy work and external affairs engagement.

  • Contribution: Plans for contributing to the delegation's objectives and post-event follow-up.

  • Representation: Region and gender representation will be considered.


Delegation Composition & Responsibilities

The delegation will consist of the LME and 9 members. Selected IFMSA delegates are expected to:

  • Contribute actively to the preparations before the event, including online preparatory sessions.

  • Attend the full duration of the congress (Sept 28-30th, 2026).

  • Act on behalf of 1.5 million medical students worldwide.

  • Commit to the assigned tasks and deadlines.

  • Support the preparation and presentation of IFMSA work at the conference.

  • Align with IFMSA objectives and advocacy priorities.

  • Support post-event follow-up, reporting, and dissemination.


Important Note

The conference will be conducted exclusively in person, and delegates are expected to attend physically. Unfortunately, IFMSA is unable to cover travel or accommodation expenses. Registration fees will be covered by the organizers for the selected delegates.

  6. Applicants will be notified of the selection results by the 25th of May.
