Dear colleagues,
I received the following message from Jennifer Bedford, who is
offering a large collection of Wagner LPs (~3000) and books (~500)
to Brandeis -- here is her description of the gift:
I have an extraordinary collection of Richard Wagner vinyl LP's,
representing every Wagner era, every live-performed opera, and
seemingly a composition with every symphony who ever recorded a
Wagnerian performance on vinyl. The collection spans recordings
from the earliest days of vinyl LP's in the late 1940's through
the 1990's. I haven't catalogued the collection, but I estimate
it to be about 3000 records.
The vinyl collection is complemented by 500 or so Richard Wagner
books, biographies, and published oral histories.
I know you have a strong musicology department, which is why I
am contacting you. Is this something that could be of interest?
I haven't yet responded to Ms. Bedford, but it's unlikely that
such a collection would get much use at Brandeis. Might any of
your institutions have an interest, or can you think of an
institution that could use such a collection? Should I suggest
that she donate
the collection to the Internet Archive?
Many thanks for sharing your thoughts!
