Dear Baltic Sea Transition Network,
Here's some news from Matawan and the Danish ecovillage movement. Matawan wants some reasons for Baltic Sea cooperation, so perhaps you have some to share. I see that we have some common conditions in the Baltic Sea region which differ from the Mediterranean or the middle of western continental Europe. The main issue is climate - we have to build warm houses, grow food in a colder climate with short season and long winter. I would like to share experiences on permaculture forest gardens in our region, and I would like to get some concrete exchange in eco-building, like building something in our ecovillage using a technique from your country.
We may have some advantages as well with better coordination, cooperation and infrastructure than in southern Europe. And if one is going to have cooperation it is always more environmental-sound and easier to travel shorter distance across the Baltic than to travel to Tamera for example.
There are some groups working on various application ideas, such as Matawan's group on the Grundtvig baltic Sea Learning Partnership. It would be good to email through the Googles Group on these to get more dialogue going.
Hugs
Robert

Hi Esa, Ingrid, Lone, Paavo, Robert! How are you? As I write to you I have flashbacks of the fine experience we shared at the GEN Conference at Damanhur in july. I enjoyed it a lot. I write to you because in a couple of weeks I will go to a meeting of the Danish Ecovillage Network and one of the proposals of discussion from my side will be to connect to other networks and single ecovillages in the Baltic region, following the talks we had about it in Damanhur. This regional network can probably give opportunities of useful exchanges at different levels, as the cultures and the legislations of the countries involved are closer, but I would like you to help me to point out the concrete advantages of this smaller network, compared to the larger network that GEN-Europe can offer at continental level. Expecially you Robert had shared some ideas, related to some EU regional programs, that could be great you write a little about.
Please share your thoughts about the Baltic Network and your (or/and your organisation's) visions about it. A green hug from Matawan PS: Eventually you can forward this to other possibly interested baltic eco-networks (Lituania? Lettonia?Russia?)
