Dear Mark, Dear Friends,
Thank you for being!
1) We are here for a cleanup project. This is part of the Evolution of the Humanity. We wish to clean up the continents first. Therefore we are utmost busy at the moment. But no fear we wish to assist and cooperate in this matter. Lets do it – together.
These materials are mostly very hazardous, so we cannot risk civilians in the actual work. Therefore we have to involve military to take care of this. After we have cleaned our nature of waste, we have cleaned our mind too. Then we have less and less need for military any more. My plan – no Rainers plan - is that we invite military to take care of industrial, mining and war time waste. This we can start in the Baltic region rather soon.
We have just two days ago founded a Finnish team to clean up Finland in a very Finnish manner. This will be published in the middle of June. Before that I am personally not busy at all, but totally occupied in many projects: letsdoit Kiev June 5th, Serbia June 6th , some Balkan countries during June 7th...14th.
While driving from Balkan and Ljubljana towards Berlin Ecotopia 2010 and then to Riiga and Tallinn, we could perhaps meet like June 14th...16th, depending when the press release is in Finland?
I really wish that we can do this. The commissioner for Environment Mr Janez Potočnik comes from Slovenia and we negotiate with him how we will clean up the entire EU, in this discussion I will remember this project. Trust we will do it soon.
Thank you very much remembering us on this most important issue.
Blessings

What a needed initiative. Cleaning World Oceans for (war)poisons…
Today I read in Danish "Ingeniøren" about this issue, see http://tinyurl.com/384f3u5
Intro-text (Google-translation!!!):
Now the war gases in the Baltic broken down
More than 20 researchers have now analyzed the Baltic seabed in a myriad of ways and come to the conclusion that the mustard gas of World War II is degraded.
Do you have any comment to the article – let me know J
I will happily send info to the readers on Ingeniøren – often there comes many, and sometimes also relevant, comments, from readers (95% scientists).

| Dear Mark and friends, Thanks for the project description. It is clear that two things are needed. The first is a meeting or conference (in St. Petersburg) bringing together all the stakeholders from Baltic Sea Countries. It is nice to see that it is a civl society initiate but that public sector organiastions are invited as they are necessary for such a project. The second would be the project itself. That is a huge task for the public sector. They would need special funds which are available from EU, NEFCO, national governments. There is special funding available to carry out pre-feasibility studies from the international funding sources to plan such a project. Civil society's (our) role is the initial pressure to start the work. We need to put together a group of NGOs and research organisations concerned about this, led by a Russian NGO as suggested. Then we need to find a Swedish organisation to apply for Sida-funding the initial conference in St. Petersburg. Anyone interested? Which LEGAL organisations wish to join? Dear friends – I’m sitting here at Barny’s place in Christiania. He tells me you guys absolutely needs to hear about this: we are going on a tour around to all the countries of the Baltic Sea region, starting in about a week and lasting through to the end of august.
The Baltic Sea is the most radioactive sea in the world – and now several countries want to bury their most radioactive waste in tunnels below our sea! A child can figure out that is the wrong location… So why don’t we protest!
The most important information about all the details of the Baltic Sea Info Tour 2010 is at:
http://baltic-tour.nuclear-heritage.net
A lot more documentation is at the homepage of a new network we’ve started, Baltic Sea Region Radioactivity Watch, see: http://www.bsrrw.org
A friend of mine, Professor Chris Busby, from European Committee on Radiation Risk had this comment on our situation:
(Quote) “ Sweden is currently ‘solving’ the waste problem by building a huge and insane radioactive waste repository under the Baltic Sea at Forsmark (with massive opposition from the people). What is it about you Scandinavians: have you had your common sense removed? You were once an icon of all that is sensible, honest and good in the world. How can you poison your beautiful region? How is it you listen to the nonsense spouted by your government officials?” (end of quote)
(Quote) “I studied the Irish Sea coasts in Wales and Ireland in 1998-2001. The Sellafield contamination in the 1980s resulted in a 30% excess cancer risk in those people living inside 1km from the sea; the exposure was by sea-to-land transfer and inhalation of the radionuclides like Plutonium-239, Uranium-238, Caesium-137 and Strontium-90. The reason for these arguments with the authorities is that the concept of “Dose”, Energy per unit Mass, breaks down for internal exposures like these. It is like comparing warming yourself by a fire to eating a hot coal. Many of these elements bind to DNA, the target for radiation induced cancer.
Similar effects to the Irish Sea will be expected in the Baltic which is now the most radioactive sea in the world, having no exit and having accumulated radioactivity from weapons fallout, Chernobyl, and the Baltic NPPs. Baltic sediments now have 50 times more Caesium -137 than the Irish Sea at the time of the cancer study, and so we expect similar coastal cancer effects!!!
My name is Per Hegelund, email: vali...@yahoo.com - Check out the Tour stops – we want participants to join us along the way or at some stop! Varm greetings - Per

Dear Mark,
We cannot hope to expect salaries for the first step to organise a conference on the problem. It does not have to be a Russian NGO for this first step but that was the proposal in the letter.
But later steps for pre-feasibility, feasibility and implementation of a chemical clean-up would of course have to use professional and paid people.

Do you know how precious is life??? Just the fact that we are together
and have a possibility to do so!?!?? :)
I'm truly amazed and thankful for a chance of meeting you all and getting
to know many of you. A year ago I didn't know anyone of you and how many
new friends now!!!!! Amazing!
Come to see us guys: this week 17th-20th of
June. Estonian ecovillage movement gathering. Aili, Tanja (Fin) and Nara (Slovenia) facilitating the
event. Sune and Heikki are also coming. I'd be so happy to see many more
of you!!
I invite you again back to meet from face to face and from heart to heart!
Sending you lots of love for whatever you do!

So to start theprocess of preparation of conference we need to put togather a group of NGOs? That is ferst step, am I right?

Dear Robert and friends :)
Thank you for your participation in the project.Â
I understand that for the further development of project Russian NGOs is needed. I think that for the roject of such scale it would be wise to have their own organization, rather than use existing ones.Â
In addition, there are people who could move the draft summit in Russia, but to leverage them we need money to pay salaries.Â
As I understand that to raise funds as a minimum we need of NGO. A vicious circle. Or I misunderstood something.
What advice would you give in this case?
