Follow-up: we had some tasty beers and pizza and a good talk by Alex.  I'll be working on putting the video up on blip.tv most likely in the next few days.

In general, I think it's up to the speaker if he wants the talk to be recorded or not, but I've got a decent camera I can use most of the time.  The results turned out pretty well!

Things learned:
Sound on the camera is good enough
Beers should be opened before we start rolling
Slides/Emacsen should be dark or the autofocus and white-balance gets messed up in the dark room.  Alex steps in front of the slides a couple of minutes in and it resets the white-balance there.
