Just announced today, we're looking at the new three dimensional printer from some company calling themselves Makerbot. I'm not sure they're even a real company because it seems they don't even have a site up at www.makerbot.com but adafruit has a video: http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2012/01/09/introducing-the-makerbot-replicator%E2%84%A2/ so maybe it's legit...

Claims talk about a 9x6x6 inch build volume, two extruder heads for multiple materials, an in machine menu with butons, and it comes fully assembled, for $2000.  I've got $500, john said he'd put in $100 and mike said $100 too.  Anyone else?

It's a real company and an OK machine. I can let people use the one at JHU Homewood campus until Jan 20, if they want to try it out first.

Thanks and 73,

You can count me in for a couple  of hundred. Very cool.

And, I'm looking forward to actually making it back in to the Node. Between work travel and the holidays, I haven't been able to make it in since Thanksgiving.

Sweet, so that brings us up to $900.  It'll be great to see you around more.  For anyone else I confused by being sarcastic, besides Blaze, yes Makebot is real.   :)  We have the finicky Makerbot Cupcake.  While I know it hasn't gotten much use by many members, I do feel that it's because of the wonkyness of the design of the machine and how much effort it takes to get something to print right.  Marty speaks wonders of his thing-o-matic, and this new one is better in every way.  I'm sure it will get more use since its better, and more stable.

I'm in for $100. What's a used cupcake sell for? Would we want to sell it if we got the replicator?

$1000.  I'm not sure if we could sell it... maybe we'd get $300?  Who knows.

If we can get $300 that is still $300 closer to the price. I don't know where to look but it would be worth knowing what it sells for.

I'm a little jealous. We purchased our makerbot late last year and it's used nearly everyday at harford hackerspace. There is often a line of people waiting to print stuff out. If we were in your situation we would keep our makerbot. We all thought we were buying it as a toy to play with but it turns out we have actual use for it on several different projects.

We'll probably do better than $300. Makerbot, being fairly new, has a
small used market. I'd guess we can get 70-80% of the new value.

When you guys settle on a price feel free to run it by us with all the details of the bot. I may actually be interested for personal use if the price is right. Otherwise we can bring it up at our space and see if there is any interest in buying a second one for the space.

I’ve been lurking for a bit since I joined last summer, but I’d also be interested in buying it for personal use – although I’d rather another group have dibs before you pass the offer to me.
