Hi, Node peeps! On behalf of your neighbors at HacDC, I'd
like to invite you to come down to our space on the afternoon of
Saturday, June 9, to hang out at our space and participate in a round
of lightning talks. Starting at 3 p.m. twelve speakers will talk for
five minutes each on a wide range of topics - in the past we've had
talks ranging from digital signal processing and DIY cyborg implants
to building a sailboat in five days and the evolution of death.
Anything is fair game, and hey, five minutes goes by in a flash -
anyone can do this! We're inviting hackers from throughout the
DC/MD/VA area to come share a variety of hackerspace and personal
projects and ideas at this round of lightning talks. Right now we're
focusing on finding participants to give a talk, but all are welcome
to come and listen. Afterwards we'll almost certainly head out as a
group for food and/or drinks.

To submit a talk topic proposal, please e-mail me (ka...@hacdc.org)
with a title and brief description.

Why would you want to do a lightning talk?
* To show off a project
* Let people know what you're into
* Get feedback on an idea
* Practice talking about a particular topic
* Practice public speaking in a nonthreatening way
* Find project contributors/volunteers/members

We'll have a projector, microphone, and speakers set up. You're
welcome to use (or eschew) any visual aids, including slides and
physical objects. We would like to record (video and still
photography) talks when speakers are amenable, but if you'd rather not
have your talk recorded, you may opt out and give an off-the-record
talk.

We're located at 1525 Newton St. NW, Washington, DC (we're a tenant of
the surprisingly easygoing St. Stephen's church). There's more
information about getting here at
http://wiki.hacdc.org/index.php/GettingHere. I realize it's a
non-trivial trip for you folks coming from your part of Maryland, but
I hope the timing on a weekend afternoon makes it less daunting. I see
Megabus has really cheap seats between White Marsh Mall and DC's Union
Station; rail may be another option. If you don't mind driving but
you'd rather not drive into downtown DC, I recommend driving to the
Greenbelt metrorail station
(http://www.wmata.com/rail/station_detail.cfm?station_id=80), from
which you can ride the green line to the Columbia Heights station,
which is an easy walk to HacDC. If you'd prefer to drive the whole
way, I can report that I haven't had much trouble finding (free)
parking spaces in the neighborhood.

RSVPing as an attendee isn't necessary, but it helps us get an idea of
how many people to expect; if you're so inclined, you can RSVP at
