Robot Fest is coming up at the end of this month, Saturday, April 27. Last year there were tanks, battleboats, wizards, 3d printers, ooblek, R2D2, and more! The Node will be exhibiting our construction paper rockets again.

Everyone with kids or just a little curiosity should come out to the National Electronics Museum.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the Node's booth can reply to this thread or to me. The more the merrier.

I will help push the Big Red Button to make Paper Rockets go Up.

1. Look at the rockets.
2. Push the button.
3. Bwahahahaa!

Or otherwise volunteer at our area.

May I have the first shift? 9am ~ 12 or such? I can help load-up at the
Node.

Paper rockets were fun, but so were Angry Birds, and if DCDrones are there...

Thanks guys!

Jerry--I asked Gary which he wanted us to bring out and he went first to rockets. He acknowledged we would have to manage the airspace, but I don't think he anticipated that being a big issue.

I'm going to be at Robotfest but with my own table.  I'll still canvas for the Node but I'm probably not going to be able to help much at the Node's booth unless someone wants to trade with me for an hour.

Wes,

Do I remember correctly that your Arduino soldering and programming class is happening concurrently with Robot Fest?
I'm interested in assisting you with the teaching/TA'ing.

I would like to talk to anyone who might be interesting in teach a Arduino programming class on June 1st at the Enoch Pratt Library.   This workshop will be part of the Innovation Expo: DIY in Maryland event.

SparkFun is going to supply kits (Simon Kits and programming cables) for me to use.  I have about 15 laptops.  I just need some volunteers to help run the workshop.   The Simon board has 4 switches, 4 LEDs, and a speaker.   Would be adding a light sensor too.   Will use the Arduino IDE to program.

SparkFun wants to make this available to Librarians as a pilot.

If you are interested please contact me:   ga...@maulers.net

Hey that's excellent!  It's actually happening in two pieces, one on Thursday the 25th as a JHU ACM field trip to the NODE and then again at robotfest.  There will hopefully be no soldering involved, just plugging things into breadboards.

I do not yet have all the pieces in, but Scott Doerrie (whom you might know from JHU) has taken it upon himself to produce some simple blinkenlight demos this weekend that we'll probably use as the basis for getting people up to speed.  Would it be possible for us to meet some time around 4/21 and go through things in broad strokes?  I, sadly, am rather swamped until then.

Hi Gary,

I could help out with this if you still need people. I've been doing a lot of Arduino stuff at work lately so I think I could be of some use. Let me know!

Just to confirm.

Wes,
You are doing an ACM trip and workshop on 4/25? I only ask because I was planning with John Shea of the Tool Library of using that night to build out the power tool drag racers.

You scheduled first so if that's the case I'll talk with John and move the workshops to another day that week.

Aw damn.  Yeah, that's the day, though I was planning on bringing the ACM down around 18:00; by OpenHack hopefully everybody's sort of hacking on their own thing and it won't be too bad if you guys are doing work in the space too?

If you think it's ok I'll talk with John Shea. I didn't want to impose on your preplanned event. Just give me the OK and we can move some people over to the tool library if needed.

I don't think it will be an imposition, and I'd hope people are interested in the project, too. :)

I'll keep you posted -- the announcement of the event goes out some time this week (we're blocking because the ACM officers want to make sure that the university or the ACM will cover the materials cost for students, as a way to encourage more people to come).

there is some uncertainty about being able to keep
my commitment, as I've slid along pavement
on an interstate, and have some problems
related to that (repairs, finances, possible court, etc)
to clear up before I can be certain...

sorry, but thought I'd let people know
as I discovered my lack of ability
to glide like a pelican along the surface
of water... (yeah, visited Key West,
earlier, but got no photos of that odd bird (genus)...)
