I think focusing on the interactive aspect of an event like this makes
the most sense, but for the future should this endevor be more of a
'cultural' event, including music, performance and art, or does that
duplicate too many of the efforts of Artscape.

My one concern with 'extending' on artscape is that there is a lot of
cruft and overhead that comes along with it, that may not echo the
goals and qualities of #sbxswb.

If I'm reading your post right, I disagree, though I don't know that
it should be as broad as artscape.

I think there's a ton of us marketing/pr folks who work on the "non-
technical" side of the interactive space who want programming directed
towards them. For me, something that's like the socialdevcamp focused
so much on tech that someone like me (a PR/marketing person) was a bit
lost (though I did pick up a few very good nuggets).

SXSWi is in part so successful because it attracts both the techies
and the marketers, as well as artists and musicians.

Hi Djazzie -

I agree with you, and with the comment you left in the other thread. my concern with attaching this to artscape is that artscape may not be the best 'fit' for an event like this. its already very established, and I know a lot of artists who have a love/hate relationship with it, and it may not be the right audience.

I think this comment
I think there's going to be more cross-
over there, more of a natural fit for the audiences. I think ArtScape
attracts a wider variety of people that might be too broad for this
type of event.
Echoes my thoughts exactly.

o.k. then I misread your original comment, and we're in agreement.

Just playing devil's advocate here.

While associating with another festival such as Artscape (too mainstream) or High Zero (too outsider) would help the visibility of the event, there's no reason to not let the even stand on it's own.

Refresh Pittsburgh and others are putting on http://webdesignday.com/, which is not associated with any other events...

What about trying to extend or partner with the MD Film Festival?
Might be an good way to integrate/focus on online moving image
content, which is becoming more and more important. Or is that too
limiting, subject-wise?
