Balsam Range's sophomore recording, released in January 2009, has
broken onto the national Bluegrass charts published by Bluegrass
Unlimited for the month of April. The CD, Last Train to Kitty Hawk,
debuted at number 15 on the album chart and the title track at number
27. BR is quite pleased with this quick leap onto the charts for the
new album and especially want to send out a big "THANKS" to all the
DJ's for their continued support and the fans for calling in and
asking for BR's music!
Last Train to Kitty Hawk was co written by James Ellis and Steve
Dukes, two songwriting guys Buddy met during his Jubal Foster days in
Nashville. Buddy was impressed with the song from the first time he
heard it - liking the message of progress and change through the use
of the Wright Brothers. In the search for songs, Buddy shared LTKH
and the guys placed their own progressive bluegrass edge to the tune
and as they say, the rest is history!
James and Steve had this to say about BR's recording of Last Train to
Kitty Hawk...
"Songwriting, in many ways, documents the highlights and hard spots in
life. The first flight is arguably one of man's greatest achievements
and a true highlight of history. Man how things have changed in 100
years! Last Train to Kitty Hawk is a testament to the evolution of
change and Balsam Range really brings it to life. Thanks for a great
record guys!"
~James Ellis
"I can barely remember us working on it. I think we were well into it
before either of us realized it was about progress. Sometimes song
writing is like that. You just dive into a little phrase and before
you know it, it takes a life of its own. It almost writes itself. I've
always been into the Wright brothers and it's real cool to be a part
of this song."
~Steve Dukes
