Folks

In light of the weather forecast below, do we cancel tonight and get the Scouts on site for 10 AM tomorrow.  By that stage rain should have stopped and breeze will start drying etc. and then we can finish site.

My concern is that kids arrive in the rain, gear needs to be stored, tents inside still need to be finished and there is no dry area outside for them to hang out yet or to store rain gear overnight?  There is still a lot for us to do, leaders tents to be pitched, patrol boxes to be sorted, fires to be built & food to be stored and all to be completed in the rain might be a big ask?

Hi Tom,

prudent to have bulk of scouts arrive in the a.m.
Wind from WNW at 12 m/s.
Cold down to 3 degreesC.
Rain all night.

Would not be a pleasant experience for the majority.

Suggest we could have our 4 No. MPC scouts use tonight as a training exercise.
Pitching mountain tents tonight as a training exercise. Cooking on Trangia etc. This would be an easy MPC overnight as facilities are available.

I am up for camping tonight in Aurora.

We need female cover if female scout camping tonight.

Regards,
James

I agree with the morning start tomorrow.

I think it should be leaders only tonight, as pitching tents in the rain is not fun for anyone, based on my experience yesterday...:-) but will leave it to MPC organisers to advise, it's their call.

Also, we need to put straps on marquee, do we have the large pegs?

Finally, do we need to reconfigure the shop to take away the supper and breakfast?

Regards,
Gerry

Think we are all agreed that tonight is a washout :-) I will send an email to parents now with a text also, we will reduce the fee to €30 and adjust shopping accordingly.

Its up to leaders if they want to enjoy another night in their bed then we will see you in the morning but some of us might want a quite night up in the hills :-)

I don't think its a good idea having the MPC Scouts there tonight.  1) I think the hall will be full of drying tents on Sunday without adding more. 2) It will distract the senior scouts having to prepare their breakfast early and cleanup and take down tents while other scouts are arriving - These are the Scouts we need to motivate/direct the younger ones.

Hope thats OK

Tom

Hi all,

Fiona and I have talked.

She will do revised shop tonight, and arrive at ground at around 7.30pm. This is to facilitate any leaders who intend to stay tonight. We will need to move the supplies across to the marquee by hand. We will need the ice-blocks that Tom and I took from den.

I will be there around 7pm and help pitch the remainder of leader tents, and will go home that night, to bring Fiona and Ciara up next am.

Hi All,

Am fine with MPC scouts not attending tonight.

Going to suggest that whatever food is bought should only be brought to campsite tomorrow morning.
- Risk of food being destroyed in storm if marquee integrity is compromised.
- Also, suggest scouts should be unloading and hand-balling their food, not Leaders doing it for them. 'Learning by doing'.

I am sure that Leaders who want to stay for tonight could self cater.

I believe Alex and I will stay in Aurora tonight.

Regards,

James.
