Hi Tom,

I am free this coming Saturday through to Sunday, but as no-one else appears available this is a mute point.

On a separate point, I believe we should lodge a formal complaint with the Group Council about the following:

Last Thursday evening I helped a Beaver Leader unload the trailer which the Cub Leaders had collectively abandoned in Larch Hill after their cub county challenge weekend. The trailer had been left in LH full of group equipment since the previous Sunday. The trailer contents included amongst other gear 3 No. wet Icelandic Tents and a 'Bungalow 5' marquee. I believe one of these Icelandic tents is now mildewed as a direct result of having being left folded wet in a bag without any air circulation. The canvas of the tents and marquee were at the very bottom of the trailer where circulation was least.

It is inappropriate that the Cub Leaders collectively appear to have little respect for group gear/property. The trailer and/or gear could have been vandalised or stolen during the 4 days it was left unattended and unsecured. Treating our equipment and tentage with such disregard is against the principles of the Scout Law/Promise.

To your knowledge did either of the Cub Sections enquire as to whether we, the Scout Section, needed the equipment or trailer for the Shield or any other reason over the bank holiday weekend?

Regards,

James

Hi Folks

We had indicated that we might do an overnight this weekend so i just want to clarify if people want that to go ahead, there is no pressure.  Alex will have the MPC Scout away and I will be in Limerick so I cant make this decision.
Lastly who's free for regular meeting this Friday assuming Scouts are not away? We put awy 3/4 of the Icelandics last Friday, we still have 1 and the Marquee to do.

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom,

Sorry for pestering you about this but is there a camp on for the scouts this weekend? I need to make arrangements to make sure that Fionn can attend if so. You mentioned below that there is a MPC this weekend, I take it Fionn was not selected? Is there a camp on for people not doing the MPC?

The last camping weekend is May 24th - 26th which is the weekend before the 2nd year summer exams start. Fionn would love to go but I am afraid he will need to study for these exams so he will not be allowed attend.

As he was away the weekend of  Aurora Glencree, it looks like he has not been selected for MPC and he has exams on the last weekend he will have missed all 3 camping weekend (unless there is something happening this weekend for people not on MPC of course).

You mentioned in your email that "anyone intending to go Annual Camp must also attend a wkd camp with the Scouts before the main event".. will Fionn be able to go to the annual trip in August if he has not made it to the above camps?

Apologies for all the questions. Thanks for all the hard work the leaders put in.

Regards

Maggie.

Dear Scouts & Parents

A few dates for your diary.

April 19th             Meeting cancelled (Good Friday)
April 26-28th       Camping Weekend in Aurora Glencree.
May 11-12th        Mountain Pursuits Challenge - MPC team to be announced.
Overnight light weight camp for remaining 2nd & 3rd year scouts.
May 24-26th        Camping Weekend away (presently targeting Castle Saunderson, Co. Cavan).

We will be focusing on Camping over the next few weeks to prepare for our Annual Camp in August. Regarding Annual camp we did not get the number needed to fund the trip to Austria for the Scouts this year so our alternative plan will to go to Scotland this year instead, the cost will be similar without the need for Vaccine injections:-). We will communicate full costs shortly but we would like you to confirm whether you are still interested in Annual Camp at this alternative venue for the same dates (Aug 3 -10th) ASAP.  It should also be noted that anyone intending to go Annual Camp must also attend a wkd camp with the Scouts before the main event.

For our weekend in Aurora we will be meeting in Aurora at 7.30PM on Fri 26th in full Uniform and collection is from same at 2PM on Sunday 28th. Scouts will also need to be available from 8 to 9pm on Wednesday 24th at the Scout Hall to pack the trailer.  Scouts are also needed from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday 25th to put up tents in Aurora so that we are ready to go when we arrive on Friday.
Lastly when Scouts are collected Aurora on Sunday they will be needed for an hour in the Den to put away/hang tents in the Scout Hall before they can proceed home.
Aurora weekend costs €40 which should be placed in a sealed in an Envelope with Scouts name and 'Aurora weekend'  written on the front of the envelope, cash only please - no cheques. Directions and kit list enclosed.  Please confirm by email if Scouts are participating in this weekend.

Lastly we have noticed over the last number of weeks that Scouts are not attending in full uniform (Scout shirt, Neckerchief, Scout trousers, Scout belt and dark coloured shoes), all Scouts must have full uniform to attend events (this does not apply to new Scouts who have joined in the last month or so).

Your in Scouting
