NO LESSONS at Billy Reed’s  this Tues ., Sept. 23^rd!!  Patti Jobst will be on vacation in NEW YORK for one week.

Patti will be teaching int. WCS at Billy Reed’s on Sunday from 2-3 PM

 

This Wednesday & Friday: …at Billy Reed’s 

Great dancing to Smooth Ballroom, Latin & Swing DJ music.  All requests will be considered. $5.  If you show your dinner receipt from Billy Reed’s for that night (minimum $10 food purchase per person) you can dance for Free.

 

If your passion is for a specific dance just tell the DJ that you are passionate about Country 2 Step, Polka or Argentine Tango or whatever and they will be sure that it is represented in that night’s play list.

 

Wednesday 6:30 – 9:00 PM                                 Friday 7:00 – 10:00 PM         

 

Barbara will be your DJ for Wednesday this week

This will be the last Wednesday for Ballroom dancing at Billy Reed’s.  In October we will go country (& more).  See details and flyer at the bottom of this document.

Brian will be your DJ for Friday this week

Fridays will remain the same!!!

 

Your musical requests are always welcome.

 

NO Partner…No Problem

Our dancers are pretty friendly.  Even those who come as a couple are usually willing to dance with others.  Ladies, if you want to dance more you are encouraged to ask the men for dances.  Asking a leader that you don’t know but would like to dance with is quite acceptable but it is recommended that you only ask for one or two dances per leader per evening.  If they enjoyed dancing with you then they will be back on their own.  We will be doing a couple of mixers per night and a couple of “Ladies Choice” dances as well.

 

FREE  ½ hour practice session Wednesday (6-6:30 PM) & Friday (6:30 – 7 PM)

 

The  practice session music for Friday (6:30 – 7 PM) will be

East Coast Swing

 

 

Fridays continue to be a night for Salseras y Salseros to show up and encourage the management at the Velvet Palm (Fantasy Springs) to play more Salsa music.  Luis Garcia tells me that the crowd is growing and there were about 45 Salsa dancers there last Friday.  Originally they agreed to play Salsa music from 9-10 PM.  Luis tells me that the DJ kept playing it until about 10:30 last Friday because the beer in one hand and cigarette in the other hand free-stylers don’t show up until later.  The bigger the Salsa turnout the better the chances of getting them to extend even further.

Billy Reed’s goes country on Wednesdays.

October always signals the re-opening of the Palm Springs Pavilion which is great news for the older dancers who adore the bands which have been coming there for years.  However, that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.  In an attempt to fill a perceived need the Wednesday Dance will now focus on some of the dances which are scarce, to say the least, at the Pavilion and most other dance venues in the Desert.

 

We will focus on:

Country 2-step, Waltz (to songs by country artists), West Coast Swing, Hustle, and Nightclub 2-Step.

Other dances are available by request but the main stay will be those listed above.

This dance will be FREE throughout October

 

Hours are 6:30 to 9 PM (subject to change as we go along)

 

Bring your favorite CDs and request the songs you like to dance to!

4th Saturday dance at the Regency Ballroom in Lomita on Saturday, Sept. 27th -- OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY !!!!!   Music is WCS, Hustle & Nightclub 2-Step.  We'll have special US Open exhibitions, and lots of fun surprises.  Martin Parker is our featured instructor, and we'll be celebrating our first anniversary in STYLE!

NEWS FLASH!!!   We just got confirmation that twin girls Hannah and Nicole Clonch  (with partners Marcos Garcia and Alex Grasso), will perform their YOUNG AMERICA division U.S. Open WCS Routines.
These 11-year-old girls are fabulous dancers and have been performing since they were tiny kids.  This will be their 6th US Open!  Over the years I've watched them grow into fine and polished performers, under the direction of Buddy and Lacey Schwimmer, and am very proud that they're coming to share their talent with.  We ALSO have the pleasure of seeing two other couples' routines -- Showcase competitors Sue Fries & John Cookson, and Masters Champions Janice Salmon & Chips Hough.  Other fun surprises are in store, so mark your calendar NOW
BTW, just a heads up -- the kids will be performing promptly at 9:00pm (bedtimes, you know), and the adults will be a bit later... so if you don't want to miss these awesome kids, get there before 9:00 this Saturday!

 Intermediate lesson from 6-6:45 PM on the main dance floor, beginning lesson from 6:45 to 7:30 PM (usually in a separate room unless there is an unusually large crowd for the beginning lesson)

 

Lessons are taught by many of the best teachers in SoCal.  They are included with your dance admission of $10, $7 if you are an OCWCSDC member or $9 if you are a sister club member.
