The Student community is aggrieved due to the sudden surge of COVID cases in the campus in the past few hours. Many students across various batches, despite the limited testing of 140 people have tested positive. It must be noted that these people have been in close contact with virtually all the hostel residents due to the community sharing structure of the residents. The country, altogether, has faced a 90% jump of positive cases in the last 24 hours. In light of these events, there has been a grave uncertainty across the student community in light of lack of an appropriate response from the administration, keeping in mind the fact that all the 5 batches have an examination today, i.e. 18th April, 2022.
We take note of the fact that mandatory COVID testing has been arranged for by the administration. However, since the tests will just be taking place this afternoon resulting on a delayed clarity unless the reports are generated. We request the administration to consider and provide the following relief -
1. An immediate suspension of atleast today’s exam i.e. 18th April, 2022 for the aggrieved batches.
2. Depending upon the positive reports, adequate measure enforcing COVID guidelines in the hostel as well as the University campus must be taken at the earliest.
3. A concrete and clear decision from the Administration regarding conduction of exams in such medically distressed times.
We would like to make it clear that this demand comes in light of our immediate concerns. We request the Administration to not dismiss these demands as an excuse to not write the exams altogether since that does not align with our objectives. We implore the Administration to not just take requisite interim measures but also establish a clear plan of action, as to provide much need certainty to the student community.
