This is in reference to the notice issued on 24th March 2022, 417/22/NLU-LKO/Admin/R-34/2021 (please find attached). Therefore this mail is being sent to seek redressal of the mode of Examination for the academic year 2021-2022.
From the 3rd of January till February of this year, our classes for this semester were held online. After that, we were shifted to the physical mode of classes from 25th February 2022, but unfortunately, there has been inconsistency and insufficiency in the frequency of our classes since the start of offline mode. Hence, we strongly oppose the decision of the administration to conduct offline exams this semester.
Hence, the following concerns are being raised by all the following batches;
(1) For the first year students, classes of some subjects like Law of Torts are still being held online, despite the university officially functioning in physical mode.
(2) For the second year students, offline classes of subjects such as Civil Procedure Code were not held at all after the college reopened in physical mode.
(3) For both first and second year students, this will be the first time that the students will be taking offline exams, despite the fact that more than half of this semester has been held online.
(4) For third year students, most of the classes were held in online mode. However, classes were highly irregular and inconsistent. Even after physical reopening classes remain irregular and large amounts of syllabus remain to be completed. Only a few classes of Property Law have been held offline since the university reopened.
(5) For the fourth year, the classes for international law and constitutional law were held highly irregularly in the online mode. The syllabus was finished online a long time back. Only a few classes of these subjects were held in the physical mode. It is important to note that despite full physical opening of the university classes for subjects like Intellectual Property Rights are still taking place online. Besides, the classes for special contract are not taking place at all. Even classes for International Environmental Law and International Commercial Arbitration are yet to be held in the offline mode.
Additionally, a number of students wished to get their honours subjects changed upon physical reopening of the university. However, they were informed by teachers that doing so wouldn't be possible as more than 70% of the syllabus had been completed in the online mode itself.
(6) For many students of all batches, attending online classes has been difficult because of poor internet connection and irregular and inconsistent timings of the online classes. Thus, they have lost a large number of classes altogether.
(7) A majority of this semester's syllabus has been completed online. Hence, it is only fair that the administration also conducts online exams.
(8) Many universities which had physically reopened this semester are still organizing online exams for their students. The notices given by these universities are attached with this mail.
(9) Fifth year students barely have had any classes conducted this semester both online and offline.
(10) Even if the administration thinks that conducting the offline exams would be beneficial for the future of the students, with due respect we wish to differ. We would like to point out that conducting regular form of offline examination in such extraordinary times (less than a month's time given for preparation and attending offline classes) would be highly unfair and would also be an injustice. This would result in the students underperforming for no fault of their's and not being able to live up to their true potential. Furthermore, the sudden nature of the announcement of offline exams has caused great mental disturbance to the students who are mentally not prepared for offline exams due to almost entirely online nature of this semester.
Due to the aforementioned reasons, we demand that:-
(1) The administration should rethink its decision of conducting offline exams.
(2) The administration should conduct the examination for this semester in the online mode.
As the previous mail sent to the administration from the student body received no response, in aguish the student body is addressing this mail again in the hope of evoking a response from the administration. We are sanguine that the administration will be sensitive to our concerns and will consider our requests and demands favourably.
Please find attached the response sheet of all concerned students who are in favor of conducting the exams in online mode.
Regards,
Aggrieved Students
