As for the accommodation, having asked a lot of Insead ppl and others been to Bali, most suggested staying in Nusa Dua as it has the most pristine and beautiful beaches. Seminyak and Kuta are very crowded. We can always go to the party places n come back to peace. ;)
 
So, for those not on their way to the volcano and arriving on Thu (like myself), here is a possible plan:

10 Mar Thu: Arrive afternoon. Go to Ubud. Visit temples like Tanah Lot. Cultural Shopping at the villages. Night stay at Ubud.

11 Mar Fri: Kintamani Volcano trek starting at 2:30am! Sunrise is damn good from top. Return by 9am.
Rafting in afternoon at 1:30 - 6pm.
Eve: Volcano trekkers join us back. Go to Ku De Ta Bar, Seminyak- Best Cocktail menu in Bali.
Night stay at Villa at Nusa Dua.

12 Mar Sat: Relax at Nusa Dua beach/Kuta beach/Seminyak/Scuba diving.
Night: Hard Rock Hotel (not cafe), Kuta- Its Centerstage rocks.
Night stay at Villa at Nusa Dua.

13 Mar Sun: Chill out at Villa n back.

All places are close by, so easy to travel- can even rent your own motorbikes!

So far we have 8 people Wednesday night, 20 Thursday night, and 23 Friday and Saturday nights when Nir & Anna and I return.

We arrive in Ubud on Wednesday so we'll book our own accommodation there.

 

For the weekend (Fri night, Sa/Su) it would be great if we could have villa's together with the group that will go for Ijen.

Have you come across anything that would fit us all?

I have spoken to a few Villas to get a feel but we need to know exactly how many of us need acco. I know some ppl have done their own booking already so i dont hav a number to work with.

coz as opposed to hotel rooms, villas are rented on a 4 bed room basis. The cost will increase a lot per person if not enough ppl end up taking it up.. at the same time, once a villa is booked for x number of ppl, it will be difficult to accommodate those left out.. we might end up fragmented.. 

given the lack of time left, and the fact that we would be out at the beach or club most of the time and that we have a lot of couples and that ppl hav different plans, i am inclined to think a small cozy hotel where we can take up indiv rooms would be easier to manage.. wat say?

btw, i can get Eva and you, the same acco in Ubud as we would take for Thu, so you dont hav to shuttle around..

we can definitely do the villa thing and stay in one or two places, plus that will be the most fun! headcount is clear from the sheet and I've figured out how we can book this easily.

 

I checked a guide book in the library (yes I'm bringing down the average on the P&M quiz tomorrow :) ) and Sanur looks very nice. Bali Emerald Villas can accommodate all of us, reviews are good, looks like nice beaches, diving, etc, for around $50/person/night in the 3 bedroom villas.

 

so unless someone has a burning idea they haven't shared yet, let's do it and I'm sure it'll be great, and we'll have a blast and we won't have to worry about splitting up and last minute stuff.

 

next step: confirm 100% that you are willing pay ~US$50-$60/night on the new tab in the spreadsheet ASAP. we can sort out who sleeps where later, but we need ~6 people, 1 per color (you'll see) who are willing to pay on the booking site. again, if two people pay who want to be in the same villa in the end, doesn't matter, it'll work out. so please indicate if you can volunteer to pay for a room by writing YES CAN PAY in the spreadsheet. this also means you'll be responding to my emails quickly and coordinating with me to make the reservation for the group depending on you :)

ps the price range is $50-60 because if we don't fit exactly into the max occupancy for each villa, then the average price per person could slightly vary, we may have some 3BR villas and some 2BR villas, etc. please be flexible :)

 

and a bonus - the price includes free cancellation, so we can always overbook for stragglers and then cancel later

Pls note sunrise trek starts at 2:30 am in the night with torchlights, to see the beautiful Kintamani Volcano and sunrise early mng. Hi everyone!

 

Sorry for the spam, but me and Caroline (my wife) just realized that Bali is the place to go to during the break… Ok, a bit of a last minute decision, but anyway. Just looking at the people going there I’m sure it’s going to be a great trip ;)

 

We plan to go there on Wednesday night and back top Singy on Sunday night. Akhil, IF there is a possibility to share accommodation in the villas Friday to Sunday and it not is a big hassle to add us, it would be great to stay together with you. Otherwise we will book everything separately. We will anyhow book the accommodation from Wednesday to Thursday. People arriving on Wednesday, where will you be staying?

 

Concerning the trek,  it sound really great, and if  (once again) it is possible to join, that would be great. Akhil, in order to save you some hassle, please let me know if you already have booked everything. If so, I’ll just call to Nick’s pension to see if we can add the group. Otherwise we’ll just find out something else to do on Thursday.

 

I will book the flights with Air Asia tomorrow morning.
