It is time once again for an adventure: and you are invited to participate! With the help of Michael Jordan Evans I have decided to shoot for the opening of Napoleon in April 2012.
What does that mean, you say? It means that is nearly time to begin the process of producing it. What does that have to do with you, you say? That depends on you J Here’s what is needed (see list below), generally speaking, and how those needs get met by you and I depend on your interest, availability, and commitment level – please reply with a general statement to that affect – that is how interested are you, how available are you and how committed do you want to be.
ACTORS: The Dostie has been cast as Napoleon and I as his mother Letizia, but the remaining roles are available and will be developed in part to fit the actors interested and available.
STAGE MANAGER: I failed to secure this one during The Nose and had to do it myself…not a good plan L So I shall get one early this time! There will also be a need for ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER(S) to lighten the burden.
PRODUCER(S): I shan’t have time to do everything by myself, so help would be helpful.
SETS, LIGHTS, COSTUMES, PROPERTIES, MAKE-UP, ART, GRAPHIC DESIGN: We are going fully hyper-integrated (if you don’t know what that means don’t be discouraged – it will all come clear for you) and I’ll need a crack team of designers willing to break to bounds of past creativity.
INTERNS: This production will be full scale and will provide glorious learning opportunities for neophytes looking to learn something that can’t be found in a book J
HOUSE MANAGER/USHERS: There will be a house to be managed, and ushes to usher.
VOLUNTEERS: Any manner of deeds may be required of you from time to time – only those with quick wits and itchy trigger fingers should apply, or anyone else for that matter whom has small bits of time to donate.
DONATERS: Is that a word? Anyhoo…if you have money and you would like to part ways with it for a just and charitable cause then send cash or checks to me at: Green Candle Theatre Company, 47 Front Street, Burlington, Vermont 05401-4302 – or you can just hand it to me in person and you’ll get a FREE hug valued at $1,000,000,000 (at least!). You will receive mention in the program for your glorious giving, you can count the contribution as a tax deductible gift to a 501(c)3 organization, and if you give enough you’ll get some tickets and some cool show related spoils (that’s historical jargon for treasury treats).
CHILDCARE: As I am a family man who has too often troubled my wonderful wife and fabulous family to care for my children at the last minute when I am away playing theatre I shall endeavor to produce this play with child rearing in mind. Play dates and sleepovers are acceptable fair!
MATERIALS/IN KIND DONATIONS: A show without stuff is mostly a bare stage with naked actors on it – which might be a great show after all (perhaps that can be the next one)…sooo…if you have things which might benefit the production and are willing to gift it/them then you can earn a tax deductible in-kind donation type of thing. Potential in kind like things might be: lumber, tools, hardware, lights, old set pieces (that could be remade – unless of course they are perfect for the Napoleonic era), clothes/costumes, needles and thread, transportation or a truck sort of thing for transportation of show stuff, paint, paint brushes, food – we theatre types love food, drink – we might love this more than food, photography, videography, online-website-o-graphy, paper, poster making, printing of posters and such, places to hang said posters and such, reviews and previews of the show, interviews with theatre types, radio time, TV time, public access time, I could go on but I think by now you get the point, you’ve fallen asleep, or you’ve stopped reading…which makes all this kind of pointless L
So I figure by now you get the general gist of my note. I intend to speak to you in person in the near future, but I wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and interested in your thoughts on this here project type thingy I’m planning.
