Same here, hoping we can get a bigger turnout next time. Michael had suggested that we try to meet at MESH cowork next time as we'd be likely to find more people interested in Linux there. Their website: http://www.meshcowork.com/

In any case, would be nice to get more organized and try to hold events more like a "real" LUG. Example: http://lug.oregonstate.edu/events/

We could do informal presentations on our own projects, coding, configuration of the different distros, etc.

Also, relevant to our discussion on the Raspberry Pi and other single board computers last night -- thought I'd post this up:

Linuxgizmos.com (used to be hackerboards.com) basically posts information about the latest and greatest SBCs and embedded-related topics. Last year they posted the first link which compares a lot of the popular SBCs of 2016 (pricing, specs, etc). It's got the ODROID boards in there that we were talking about.

That would be similar to how the BC computer club is. Presentations were either done by the club members or outside industry professionals.

Hey guys!

Sorry I haven't responded in a while but I've been swamped with my new job, life, and some client work. I just got a reminder for my JavaScript meetup today, so I figured I'd drop a line.

Might be too late of notice, but Bakersfield JavaScript has a meetup tomorrow night (third Thursday of every month at 6pm) if anyone wants to stop by and see what MESH Cowork is all about. We meet at 6pm and the address is 2005 Eye St #4 (upstairs above Dagny's Coffee shop; glass door to the right), Bakersfield, CA 93301.

Thanks!

Btw, you can just show up. There's no need to sign up or RSVP if you don't want to.

Hi Michael, sorry to reply way late, was going to come to this but had to pack for a trip that night. Going to try to make the March one (Thursday the 16th at 6PM). -Jake

No problem. I just have one question, I wasn't aware that there'd be another meetup on March 16th at 6PM, where did that come from and what are the details? Anyone? -Micheal

Oh, my bad, I thought you were talking about a "Bakersfield Linux User Group" but yeah that's the next time the JavaScript group meets. I'll be there, the more the merrier and hope to see you there.

MESH Co-work does have a lot of other meetup too, as well as Free Mondays where they teach classes and/or you can just hang out. I still haven't went there on a Monday though.

Thanks.

I'd be up for another LUG meetup, I think we should use meetup.com as you suggested, probably do a Saturday, and plan something out, like an installfest.

My Saturdays and Sundays are usually pretty filled up, so weekdays are actually better for me, so idk but I'll try to show up. I do agree we should have a meetup page though.. it's really not hard to setup or anything but the question is getting people to use it (for say RSVP's, notifications, etc).

And while an install-fest might be kinda cool, my vote would go towards an actual project.. like making a touch screen table or TV (running Linux) or an arcade Cabinet/Tabletop Arcade (running Linux and Mame32 or something), or maybe something simpler like setting up a LAMP server and making a website, idk. But maybe it should be left to a vote that those who show up for the meetup should be entitled to (being that those would be the ones doing it).

And sorry to say guys, I might be changing fences to BSD (Linux's cousin lol) as my primary desktop (just haven't found the distro I want yet). But I already use it for servers (running FreeNAS, NAS4Free and FreeBSD) so it's a transition I'm considering doing across the board. And for those of you that might not know, it's very similar to Linux: the command line is very much the same, a lot of the tools are similar and/or the same in some cases, and it's based on Unix and the Basis for Mac OS. I also love some of the command line features like non-case-sensitive tab completion, ZFS with snapshots, and that you can use it for more commercial applications (if you wanted to).

I'm fine with weekdays honestly. Just sounded like a few could only make it on the weekends. Agree on what you said about a project. Would be cool to make a MAME cabinet.

Cool about BSD. Even though we're loosely a LUG, I think we could/should fall under the umbrella of non-Windows computing of all kinds.
