The Baja Love Ride riding teams are groups consisting of 2 or more riders. There is no limit to the number of riders on a team. The teams are allowed to divide the distance of each days ride by in any manner. For example, on a 50-mile day a team of 4 riders could do a distance of 12.5 miles each, or all 50 miles each.
The idea of a team is to make it so any rider at any level can participate at a level that they're comfortable. It is also a way for group to collectively get more donations, a great way for a group to promote themselves, or their cause. It also ensures a group will keep tires on the group the whole way.
