Good day All

I'm new to posting on the group, but have been following it for a
wile.

My bajaj started knocking/vibrating this morning.
It doesnt idle as smooth as it use to and I can feel a lot of
vibrating through the handelbars. (feels like a OLD thumper)
There also seem to be a power los.
I removed the spark plug leads: With only the left hand plug it
starts, idle and revs. With only the right hand spark plug it starts
and idle, but doesnt rev.

Any idees what might be wrong?

Thanks
Lourens

Good day LLemm,

I had a similar issue with my MotoMia Roma 250 Cruiser.

We were on our way to Malmesbury from Tulbagh when the motor just lost
power. We struggled at 20-30km/h full throttle untill we got to
Malmesbury and check but everything was fine. It starts perfectly,
idles and revs but as soon as you get on and start to drive there is a
heavy loss of power. We eventualy made it back home and I replaced
the spark plugs. The problem was solved.

I suggest getting some new plugs, maybe using the older ones if you do
your own servicing.

Hope the info will help

I don't normally post here. I read more than post -

Before you but new spark plugs, try bleed your carb out. there's a
little screw you open to let out a bit of petrol. I sometimes have a
problem that sounds very similar to yours caused by water in the
petrol. It can be fixed by letting a little petrol out of the carb.

Check plugs first

If that doesn't work check for corroded connections by the fairing. My connectors became corroded. The dash lights stopped working. Cleaned them put conductive grease in all the connections bike went like a bomb. Has 27000 ks on and never missed a beat after that small problem. Happened on my suzuki as well from rain and washing. Most likely a bum plug

Cheers

Thanks guys.

The plugs looks alright.
I swapped the plugs around (left to right and vieceversa ), and the problem didnt change with the plugs.

Ill check the wiring connections this weekend.

Yeah I think your problem will still persist if you swap the plugs,
you need a fresh pair to test.

Anyway, try the other options the guys mentioned, and see what results
that may yield.

I hope you get right, BTW, no grinding or funny noises coming from the
engine as it idles?

I cant hear any strange noises, it only sounds louder.

If the problem was one of the plugs the symptom would have moved with the plug.
But the same side (of the engine not the same plug) is still the dead one, so I've ruled out the plugs.
Next I'll try the coils.

I asked my brother to check if his pulsar also does the same.
His bike also runs good on only the left hand plug, but doesnt want to rev if only the right hand is connected.

So now I'm wondering if thats maybe normal? If the right hand plug only works on low revs?
Can someone else do the same test?

The timing on the plugs is different if I’m not mistaken. One ignites
later than the other to get rid of the residual fuel in the cylinder.

Why don't you ask your brother to remove those plugs of his and put it
in your bike?

Have you checked if there is spark on both leads?

Take a screwdriver and gently insert it into the plug lead and point
it to the engine but not touching, just a little bit away so the spark
can jump. If you see a spark jumping, there is power on that coil, do
the same with the other side. If one of them fails, the coil pack is
most likely faulty.

Yes there is spark on both plug. I removed one plus lead and started it. Then I replaced that lead and removed the other and it started again.
Thats how I know that it doesnt rev with only the right hand plug connected. If there was no spark it would not start.
The spark plugs are fine.

Ok, so it starts fine and it revs, but does it want to ride, is there
a loss of power?,

The reason why I ask this, is those plugs will start it up and run it,
but not when you start to drive.

If you rules out the plugs, try cleaning the carb or that screw that
was mentioned to get rid of water buildup.

So what happened here? Did you find the problem?

No joy yet.
Can you maybe check what your bike does with only 1 plug lead connected?

No expert on this, but something I saw in the workshop manual...

symptom: sudden drop in mileage and powerlack in midrange rpm
cause: reed switch is stuck in open circuit
remedy: replace reed switch assembly

maybe worth checking out...

Cheers
