I have now just filled up for the 3rd time after getting my Pulsar
180.

The first tank 4.663 litres per 100 km or 21.45 km per litre.
Then I had the bike serviced,
and then got 2.926 litres per 100 km or 34.18 km per litre.
I found out that I had a lose sprocket on the rear wheel, and had that
fixed. I am also trying to ride the bike in a more economical way, and
with the last tank I got 2.868 litres per 100 km or 34.86 litre per
km.

I think that is pretty good for the bike carrying just over 100km of
rider.
This tank I will attempt to get the to 40 km per litre mark, but I
doubt it is possible with the hills and valleys I have to travel
through from Edenvale to Sandton.

I also got the right front indicator replaced as the same time the
sprocket had to be fixed, so now she is ready to go through
roadworthy. If all goes well it will happen later this week, or early
next week.

On the 16th March we are joining a geocaching group on their bikes,
and going for a bit of a geocaching run in the Hartebeespoort dam
area. It will be very interesting to see what consumption I get on the
"open" road, and with a pillion (my daughter). Anybody care to join
us?

What consumption do you guys get from your Pulsars?

Hi Anton

I get on the average 640 km to a tank. I have done 720 when I have ridden nicely. I ride on the highway from germiston to centurion at 100 kph. I do the same hills as you past gilloolys and then go to pretoria. I don't know how but the mounts on my clock broke. I made a plan and they are nice and secure again. My 180 has 27000 kms on and never a days hassle.

Educate me what is geocoaching.

A run would be good. I normally take my rgv suzuki and go to que serra or cullinan. I haven't been to harties for a while now.

Cheers

Hi Greg and group.

(I sent an email, but only now do I see it did not go through)

Wow. 700 km on a tank would be amazing! Have you change your sprocket
ratio?
There is a short bit, between Greenstone, and London road where I get
to 100km per hour, but find the bike is revving quite high when I get
there. Would not like to ride all the way to PTA at over 6 0000 revs.
Maybe your bike is just better tuned then mine.

Geocaching:
It is a game/sport where one uses billion dollar US military equipment
to find Tupperware in the bush.
(I love that definition)

But basically it comes down to the following:
You get a set of co-ordinates from a web site, and then use a GPS to
go and find a small container with a log book. If you find it you sign
the log book, and then let the web site know, once you are back on the
PC that you have "found" it. We have found just over 800 so far here
in South Africa of the 5,500 available. This is a global game, and
there are currently over a 1,000,000 world wide.

It is amazing the places geocaching has taken us. To the top of
Majuba, to Sentinal View in Cape Town, to PE's Sharkrock Pier, to a
few unknown/out-of-the-way Game Reserves.

So far I have done about 10 geocaches on the bike, and today bought a
GPS holder for my Garmin for on the bike. When the rain stops I will
be finishing of the mounting thereof.

Greg (and others of cource) if you are interested in hunting one or
two geocaches on the bike, one weekend to see what it is like, let me
know... Maybe we can stop off for breakfast somewhere.

For a short video on what geocaching is:

The web page home of geocaching:
http://www.geocaching.com/

Or if you want to see some of our hunting in Pretoria... I made a
small video and posted it to youtube:\

Sorry... this went a little off topic.

Cheers
Anton

My consumption sucks compared to you guys. I weigh 115kg and ride it
flat out most of the time. I get 350 km only on a tank. Still better
than my car by a long way.

Hey guys,

Wow @ those great numbers.

I must say, I drive in the Northern Suburbs and it's really stop and
go constantly. I receive anything from 350 - 400+ depending on how I
ride, Weather temps and services.

I have tunes my pulsar 180 a bit leaner and it's still running great.
I recently drove 100km to malmesbury and the consumption is brilliant,
so if you riding round town and between traffic, don't expect more
than 400+ but if you ride long distances you will have great
mileage.

I have changed my style:
1: Smooth accelerates till 6k rpm and shift
2: Smooth accelerates till 5k rpm and shift using the torque.

I noticed when using the second option the mileage is greater, not by
much but a bit better since the torque on these engines are very good.

I have the sprocket conversion and standard jetting. I have done almost 500kms and not close to reserve. I should get about 640 on this tank. I weigh 90 kg and travel on highways at 7000 rpm. I very seldom go over 100kph.

Nice,

What sprocket conversion do you have? , I was thinking about something
like that but never came around to do it.

What is your speed @ 7k rpms?

Nice to know hat you get on that conversion
