Dear All,
River basins hold us and river valleys have been the cradles of our civilization. Rivers are living entity and are critical components of our ecosystems and cultures. However with they now becoming part of ‘water resources’ to augment our multiplying development needs (read ‘greeds’), their commoditisation (including privatization), allocation, pollution and connection are fast becoming topics of hot contestation.
The present pace and direction of development bandwagon in Odisha, make its imperative for its civil society and citizens alike to give more attention to its rivers, before it becomes too late.
Towards this direction, we, on behalf of Baitarani Initiative, Odisha Water Forum and Odisha State Center of FPWCI, present herewith 1st issue of River Basin Transact – a humble initiative towards spreading basin literacy and raising basin concerns.
Looking forward to your valuable feedbacks and solidarity towards Odisha’s Rivers!
