Speaker Bio:
Associate Professor Mohamad Abdalla is the Founding Director of the Griffith Islamic Research Unit (GIRU), Brisbane, Australia; Director of the Queensland node of the National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies, Australia's leading Islamic Studies Centre, a multi-million dollar centre funded by the Australian Federal Government; Senior Research Fellow at the Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance, Griffith University, one of the premier research centres in Australia, Associate Investigator with Australia's first Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security, with a $25 million budget over the period 2008 - 2012; and Convenor and Senior Lecturer of subjects including; Islamic Law in a Changing World, Great Texts of Islam and Islam and the Making of Europe. Additionally, he was the Chairperson of the Queensland Government Muslim Community Reference Group (MCRG), an advisory group to the Queensland State Government; Vice-president and spokesperson for the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC), Australia's leading Islamic religious organisation; and Acting Imam of the Kuraby mosque in Brisbane, Australia.
