Hernandez targets number one with just three races left
DOHA, Qatar (February 2, 2011) - Josh Hernandez, driver of the B1 Racing Pro Extreme '57 Chevy Pro Mod, is completely focused on the job ahead of him this week as the Arabian Drag Racing League enters Round 6 of the eight race Championship series at Qatar Racing Club in Doha. He has had plenty of time to reflect on his DNQ in Round 5, and, just as would be expected from Pro Mod's most successful driver -- he has analyzed and moved on. And just in time: with only three races left, he is in third place, 405 points out of first, and ready to strike at the lead.
"Now is the time," the Texas native said. "We've got to make a move to catch up with J.R. Todd and get ahead of Frankie [Taylor], and I know we've got the car that can do it.
"As far as the last race goes, Jim [Oddy, crew chief], Troy [Critchley, car chief] and the rest of the team looked at the data, and they made the changes necessary to get us down the track without shaking. We learned, and we've moved on. Simple as that," he said.
The entire B1 Racing team spent the day Wednesday testing to prepare for the races Thursday and Friday, and all were optimistic about what they saw.
"We went out there to get down the track, and were able to put up a 3.68-second effort - definitely a time that'll show well on race day. And, the good news - there's more left in there," he added with a smile.
"I've been in close championship races before, so I don't really feel any additional pressure. I only want to focus on doing my job on the starting line and winning rounds," he said.
Qualifying for the ADRL Round 6 event is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, followed by eliminations Friday evening.
