This is just a bunch of ideas that we should try and get together for the garden opening:

- Need trucks/shovels/rakes/people to move large amounts of compost into the garden before its tilled. I'm assuming till/or no till, we still everything this year.

Add your ideas as comments, that way we can set up project timelines and look for resources.

OK I called the Verona, Dane County compost guys. I told them it was an informational call. So, no commitment. Gave him a little info on what we were doing.

To cover an acre, 2 inches deep would require approximately 270 cubic yrds, or 20 truck loads. He is about 75% sure he can give the compost to us, to help us get off the ground. They have a lot, and it would help them out. Needs to get higher authorization. We need to supply the people and the trucks to move it. We can call him when its time to actually schedule it and work out the details as we get schedules figured out.

Based on the quantity of compost I assume the number of truck loads referenced is a double axle/dump truck size which can haul up to about 10 cubic yards as opposed to a normal pick up will haul about 1 cubic yard of material. That's a lot of material to move by hand even if it's dumped systematically. What might be ideal is to find a local trucking company that would be willing to donate part/all of their fee to run a truck and skid steer to help us. We would then still have a lot of hand work to make it an even spread throughout the garden but would save many hours of back breaking work to get the majority spread out. Alternatively, just a dump truck would be able to spread it somewhat by dumping multiple smaller piles.

I think we need to get a relationship setup with a landscape company(s). We're going to need to get things for the hardscape and stuff like that.

We need to get the outreach folks to get a hold of some landscape companies. They've done the holiday lighting and there is no snow to plow. Let's get on this! Nice job Mark!

Hello all,
We need to remember that this is County land not private land. The County is relying on CAC to help us get this going. Community involvement is critical and the excitement and energy for this project is something that everyone is grateful for. On the other side, being that this is a County park, they have say over what happens on the land. We need to be sure we are respecting the process and not jumping to far ahead. If we want compost we need to talk with Micah and if agree he or I can go to the County and they will set that up. At this point we are not sure where our garden will be yet or where the well will be. The County is working on all that now. They will have answers very soon and will have a design with our ideas on it for us to review for wanted changes likely in January.  I hope this makes sense and I am not squelching any excitement moving forward. Just that we need to have a process that involves the CAC and the County at every level.
Thanks,
Erika
