Well I could only guess from the keynote which was fairly lackluster,
but yeah it did seem a bit off to me, Jobslessness notwithstanding.
iWork and iLife, we're already sort of conditioned to expect every
year but maybe they think we're that dumb and are just wowed and
incredibly surprised by absolutely everything that comes off that
stage (and usually, we are). I think the only thing that got me really
excited was the DRM-free music. That frankly makes it all worth it,
it's a major step in reforming music management and I think is going
to benefit both their users and their business model.
Hearing that the crowds were thinner doesn't quite surprise me, in
this economy the prospect of getting on a plane to go to macworld for
the hell of it would be quite daunting, and If I remember last year
well, we had alot of people who were there just to be there. Also, was
our booth in the same spot this year? We got like all the traffic in
Moscone center last year.
Most companies are probably holding back their major releases until
people have money to spend again, but on the whole I think WWDC this
year is where were going to see some really cool stuff. Most of
Apple's recent advancements have been under the hood in either
hardware or software, with the new nVidia chipsets, snow leopard and
whatnot. Apple's changing real fast, and obviously macworld isn't
their venue anymore given that they're pulling out, but even still, I
blame the government.
