Question about colds

Hi ladies
Charlotte woke up this morning with a bad cold. Shes only had mild ones before this-stuffy nose mostly. Now she is sneezing, nose running like mad, and eyes watering.

What have you guys done for baby colds? I'm pushing fluids and we gave her a little Tylenol. Humidifier in her room.

Any suggestions? I'm assuming it's just ride it out but I thought I'd ask.

Dara had it last week. Runny nose/sneeze only lasted 24 hours. Did everything your doing+put a pillow under her mattress to keep her head elevated.

Eleanor had an awful cold too during the last snow storm. It lasted about 5 days. I just put a towel under her sheet to keep her head elevated , dehumidifier, and gave her a hot bath before bed. 

I hope Charlotte feels better soon!

Same here.  Emilia has it right now, too. Started at the end of the week.  Doing the same and giving her saline a couple of times a day and using nose frida before bed.  Hope Charlotte gets better soon.

I did the same things.  The nose frida is disgusting but at least you know you are getting it out.  I also brought Luke into the bathroom and turned on the shower for steam in addition to the humidifier.  Seemed to help.  Hope she's better soon!

Thanks ladies. Hadn't thought of the bed elevation even though we did that for weeks when she had acid reflux. Steam in bathroom is good too! 

Is the nose frida the thing that you use to suck the boogers out? We have that but the pedi said its not the best thing. I thought it worked well though.

Are you thinking the one they give you at the hospital? The bulb? NoseFrida is a tube attached to a straw type thing.

This is the nosefrida:   It works really well and just touches the outside of the nostril.  I personally found it easier to use than the bulb and you can tell that the "stuff" is coming out.

I got mine via amazon. I bought filters at Buy Buy Baby. Have also seen at Magic Beans. I have to 'sneak attack' Dara as she HATES it. But it lasts 5 seconds and makes such a difference. 

I think the Nose Frida shares a seat on the bus with the Nail Clippers as Dara's LEAST favorite things in the world.

They definitely have them at Isis.  I don't think they carry them in store at bru.  I've never seen one in a drugstore but maybe someone else has?

Whole foods has them too. At least Dedham and Cambridge street do. I would think a WFM on the north shore would have it? Call and ask for someone in health and beauty, not in the grocery area.

Yeah there's a whole foods nearby. Closed now but I'll go tomorrow

Now we are thinking it might also be an allergic reaction. Her eyes were swelling up like mad and she had a mean red rash on her poopy little bum.  Doc said Benadryl so we are waiting to see if it helps. 

Waaaaaay past bed time. Gettng close to mine too.

Looks like we are going to see an allergist to figure out what caused the reaction. Meanwhile the sneezing snottiness continues. Fun stuff

Men are terrible at being sick. Last time Scott was sick and I was on maternity leave, we just abandoned him and ran errands/hung out with friends.

Ben now has croup and we had a fun trip to Children's last night/this AM. So tired. And now I'm out of sick days for the year. I hate this country's maternity leave policy!!!

Bart is my first child healthy or sick. Miller is my second. However preference/favorite are not in that order.

Miller likes to swallow all of his saliva when he is teething and then throw up.  Saturday was not fun. Luckily no trips to children's. I hope Ben and Charlotte are feeling better soon.

Thanks Sandy!! We are doing okay, attempting to do a few things for work and then nap! The throwing up is the worst. I'm afraid we are back on the barf train now that Ben has the cough again. We literally had two weeks of healthy. You know you've been at the doc too much when the receptionist recognizes your child's name by your voice. Pathetic.

On a lighter note, our kids are going to be one in about 2-4 months. I want to throw out an idea and see if we have any takers...

Coco baby on Washington street has space available to rent for parties($75/hour) Considering our kids will be having parties around the same time and it won't be possible for us to make every party/event... Would people be interested in throwing a communal party for all the babies sometime in late may/early June? 

I am willing to front the $$ if people will bring food, decorations, beverages....

I was thinking we could combine great beginnings classes. I'm thinking of throwing millers birthday party there anyway (family/extended family) and I was going to check out the situation. 

I just thought it was a great neutral location that everyone could gather together and celebrate our achievements (of survival, j/k).

That sounds like a great idea.  I am totally in.  Sorry to hear the little ones are having a hard time....big ones too.  Billy is getting over a cold too, and I thought it was tooth related, but no such luck.  He is still a toothless boy.  Crazy thing happened at his 9 month appointment, his head is only in the 50%!  I can't believe it!  Trust me, it looks no smaller than it ever has.

I'm not sure what technique you guys are using with the nosefrida, but I found Billy hated it the least when I had Will hold him upright and I did a sneak attack.  It was much more dramatic when I did it on the changing table.

Definitely babiators for sunglasses. They are awesome.  I would suggest finding a strap to keep them on.  Luke does the Caruso csi move and snaps them off dramatically.

OMG my husband us the biggest wimp when he's sick. 

Like the time he came limping into the bedroom complaining of "horrific pain" in his back two weeks after I labored for 36 hours and then pushed out an 8 lb baby. He took a pain pill and slept for hours. Meanwhile I was still sore as hell from my stitches and all that. Hilarious.

We have real kids shades. They are great. Have soft sides that go all the way around head and attach with Velcro. Got them at REI. 

I love the idea of a group party! I'm in. Charlotte was born on memorial day so we are planning to have a big bash here in nahant. You will all be invited but I realize there will be many parties that weekend and a lot if people travel.

I am sorry too some of your babies are under the weather. Eleanor hates the nosefrida too! I attempt it by doing sneak attacks when she is watching Baby Einstein or by man handling her and holding her arms down. I also use a wet, hot wash cloth to get her snots out. 

Thank you for the suggestions on baby shades. I need to buy Eleanor a pair. This summer will be so much more fun now that we can take them to the beach. I can't believe our babies will be 1 soon too! It's really true what they say, "The days are long, but the years are short". I plan on throwing Eleanor a birthday party at our new house with family  so I would love to do a big party with all of you at Coco. I can't believe this is our last week in the South End. I have really mixed emotions. I think I will miss Flour the most though ;-)

Christine--great idea on the party. We will be traveling the last 2 weeks of May so I am not going to commit to anything just now. But please keep us in the loop as this may change. 

All of our family is out of town, we may end up doing something small at our apt. or the nearby park. I do love the idea of getting all these little ones together for the big ONE though.... I have this mental image of a big sheet cake with all their names in the middle of a big picnic blanket and all the kiddos in nothing but diapers surrounding it ready to attack. would be SUPER fun!

The Children's Art Space looks really nice. I would be most interested in their rates. A volunteer program I was a part of has done events at the Harriet Tubman House. We used the atrium for a meet and greet, I don't know much about their other rooms but the atrium would not work for a kids party.
