Hi Ladies,

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in swapping ideas for food for babies that are turning into toddlers. Charlotte is a good little eater, but I feel like I am feeding her the same things over and over again, and I'm looking for ideas. She mostly likes finger foods and eats most anything that is made into some sort of pancake—sweet potato pancakes, zuchini pancakes, quinoa cakes, etc. I add cheese and veggies and various other things to these depending on what I have available. She of course loves bread and cheese and would eat nothing but that if I let her.

Do you guys have any finger food ideas or perhaps a recipe book that you might recommend? I'd love any ideas!

Also, are any of you teaching your kids how to use a spoon themselves? any suggestions? We are just starting this and we haven't made too much progress.

thanks. Hope you are all well. I can't believe these kids are turning one soon!

e

If miller starts getting adventurous... We still eat yogurt mainly. Maybe a few mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. Until then I feel like I would just end up throwing it away.

Great idea Eden! I feel like I am running out of food ideas too. I will share what Eleanor has been eating lately. In the morning I scramble an egg for her then sprinkle it with mexican cheese. I mash up some avocado too and put some kiwi on the side. For lunch she will have toasted cheese and deli meat sandwich or a nutrigrain bar if we're out of the house. For dinner, I will give her Gerber stage 3 dinner. She is kind of done with those though....She also loves bagels with whipped cream cheese or an English muffin with a little butter.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi everyone,
Billy will eat anything so long as it's not on a spoon. He usually has a pouch of fruit for breakfast. For lunch I give a veggie pouch with pb&j sandwich or leftovers from the last night's dinner. For dinner, another pouch with whatever I've fixed for dinner or I give him chicken or pork tenderloin (it's his fave) with carrots, sweet potatoes and pasta. I found this veggie pasta by Rienzi at stop & shop made with carrots and sweet potatoes for kids. It's really quite good and the size is perfect for little fingers.
I'm a little dependent on pouches, but I feel good that he's getting enough fruits and veggies. I'm guessing his pedi will tell me to give fewer pouches at his one year visit.
He also loves grapes and all melon varieties. He ate all of Stella's once.
Billy finally got his first tooth so maybe I'll try something he can really sink his tooth into next.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and I hope everyone is well!

thanks for the suggestions ladies!

My recipes...
One thing Charlotte loves is sweet potatoes and I've been trying to get protein in her and other veggies, so I use leftover roasted sweet potatoes and mash them and mix in an egg, some spinach, maybe cheese, some quinoa, whatever else adn cook them in a frying pan. I do the same thing with zuchini—mix in an egg and some other stuff and cook it in a pan. Or sometimes it's mostly a quinoa cake with stuff added, spianch, cheese, shredded carrots, etc. This one is the closest thing to bread, so she seems to love it. I like them a lot too adn eat them for lunch pretty often or as a side dish at dinner.

I remembered too that I fed her some chicken apple sausage from whole foods and she loved it. I try  not to feed her that kind of thing too much, but she really likes it.

Just bought some tofu and I'm trying a variation on zuchini pancakes.

Thank you!

I think if Dara could eat blueberries and pizza crusts at every meal she would be the happiest person in the world. We will do that or a different berry cut up for breakfast along with crackers or puffs.

with her its all a hit or miss game. sometimes she will gobble up food, other times she will just toss it on the floor and I have to keep giving her options before she will actually eat.

successes: berries of all kind, pasta, leftover pot roast, quiche,  sweet potato, really soft chicken (from chicken soup lets say), mini pizza bagels, soft pretzels, and really anything that comes of MY plate (opposed to being placed on her high chair). We too still do packets at times due to convenience.

Eden, your quinoa cakes sound amazing--what's your time on prep/making? I think up great ideas but find it so hard to execute. I am making 2 quiches now and will freeze one.

thanks!

Shirah—
Charlotte is hit and miss too and sometimes I have to try several things.

Quinoa cakes are pretty easy. I cook the quinoa in a rice cooker (same as you would rice: twice as much water as quinoa) We eat it a lot for dinner, so I make extra to make the cakes.
Then I add the egg and cheese and spinach (I usually saute this a bit first to soften it, but I"m not sure it's necessary) or grated carrot or whatever. I don't know the exact amount of time, but it's not much, maybe 20 minutes if I"m using leftover quinoa. Let them cook slowly so they cook through, then brown on the outside. Pretty tasty.

They sell them at whole foods with things like dried cranberries and nuts (I think) in them, but I haven't tried that yet.

I tried a different zuchini pancake recipe today and I can send that if you want. It's really good. More like a breakfast pancake with flour and cinnamon and nutmeg and egg and milk.
