Hi ladies
I feel the need to share this with you ...
If you have not taken infant CPR yet I highly recommend it. Charlotte choked on a teething biscuit this evening, like really choked-couldn't breathe, cry, make any noise. It was terrifying but Because of the cpr class i knew exactly what to do and surprised myself by actually doing it-just the choking part. The chunk came out quickly and she is completely fine. I'm a little freaked out but she is not phased. I was told that 1 in 10 parents have to use the infant heimlich maneuver. Crazy.

So the moral of the story is- Take infant CPR if you have not already done so.

Hope you all weathered the blizzard well. Hope to see you soon.
Eden

Eden! So scary!

I am so glad she is okay! We took the infant CPR class with Isis in May and were very happy with it in case anyone needs a recommendation.

Thanks for sharing your story, I have no doubt that you are pretty shaken by it. As you said, you are lucky to know exactly what to do. I am not at all surprised that your instincts kicked in--well done Mama.

sending much love,
Shirah

Yes I took the class at Isis too. I think the teacher was named Dennis. I went to Arlington just bc of the schedule. Very good class.

Thank goodness Charlotte is okay. Great mom saves the day mode Eden! I took infant CPR years ago and I am positive I need to take it again. I'm thinking about registering for the toddler one (ages 1-5) since Billy will be 9 months when I take it.
Has anyone taken that one yet?

The GI doc we go to suggested veggie straws and freeze dried mango slices in place of teething biscuits because they disolve super quickly and won't present a choking hazard. Just an idea to try.

Hope you all weathered the storm and didn't lose power!

Yes I just signed my mom up for the class. I'm embarrassed to say that my husband has not taken it yet and he is also signed up now.

Im not sure that my mom will react fast enough of be able to do exactly what the class teaches but at least she'll be aware and able to recognize what is happening. It may be a false sense of security but it makes me feel better to know she is going to take it

My mom said she sort of knew what to do but after I took thd class I realized that techniques had changed a lot even since I took CPR several years ago.

I think just knowing to put them head down is helpful. She coughed the piece up and it went back down but once I got her head down it came right out with a smack on the back.

I think any caregiver- nanny mothers helper babysitter should have the ability to recognize what's happening and take action.

Thank you for the suggestions for food Christine.

I am going a little stir crazy with this storm.  Eleanor is teething and now has a head cold. I am f'ing tired and have been wearing the same sweat pants for 2 days and haven't brushed my hair.  I feel lucky though we've had power the whole time.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. The tops are bad. It took miller a full week (he got both back to back). The munchkin self feeder helped a lot. I would put a cold piece of poached pear in it and he would chew/suck on it. Every night he got Advil and teething tablets.

I also think he threw up bc of teething. He threw up so much we had to get an iv at children's. its not fun. I feel your pain.

Oh man! Rough January for the babies and moms. Would love to see you all, I am off work next week if anyone wants to grab coffee or something. :) No teeth on this end but a case of RSV with a cold that seems like it will NEVER end. Hopefully the dads could take over the last few days and the moms got in a nap or two.

And we just reviewed the Infant CPR booklet!

We are better. It was a rough week. He only booted for an hour but he turned gray and lethargic.... Mom gut came through and said this isn't right. It was sad to see him dry heave, but once he got the fluids, he turned immediately. I think If it were a virus he would have been sicker for more than 3 hours...

All I know is teething sucks. This ROUND is over, but I'm sure there will be more.

Candy/anyone teething- my advice is do what works at the time and forget all the sleep training you've done. Sleep is the most important and it only takes 1 night to get back on the wagon.

I'd love also to see all the little ones and I'm sure Charlotte would too. We could do both?

Christine- I have not heard of teething tablets? What are they and where do you get them? C is teething too. Of course it is the worst at about 4 am.

The other night Charlotte cried for 2 hours and my husband SNORED through the whole thing! My mom was staying over and when I went into the hallway I could hear her snoring in the other room. I do not know how they sleep through it!

They are made by hylands. You can get them at cvs, target, maybe whole foods. They are not a cure, but anything that helps even a little is golden.

Yeah we went through that too. didn't last too long. I think a week give or take. We just kept doing the sleep training stuff and it got back to normal. But then she started teething again...

It's always something waking those little buggers up isn't it?

A little bit of both.

I used the Ferber method for sleep training which worked well generally. When the regression happened it didn't work as well and after several nights I was totally exhausted and nursed her and she slept. I think I nursed her two nights in a row and I worried that it would set us way back but it didn't. Just took a night or two to get back on track.

It will pass but it sucks!

We used progressive waiting....isis' version of ferber.  It seemed to work really well to get him back on track after the regression.  When we did a sleep consult they said to be consistent.  I'm no expert, but I would stick with whatever technique you used to sleep train initially.  I don't know if you've done an isis consult, but I found the follow-ups to be super useful as well.
Billy just made the transition from 3 naps to 2, and that included a few fireworks as well!!!

We've been going through something similar.  Although for us it seems like it's happening in this weird pattern of every three or four night she has one or two bad nights and then she's fine again.  Not sure if that's you, too.  Like Eden it's been a mix of Ferber and soothing.  I've only nursed her one night (last night) because she's a little sick and didn't feed that well before bed so I thought maybe she was hungry.  Other than that, I haven't fed her and we've tried letting her cry and self-soothe.  When that hasn't worked and she's cried and fussed off and on for an hour plus we've just picked her up and walked her to sleep.  After awhile it is exhausting so everyone needs sleep.  The weird part is that picking her up hasn't necessarily set us back too much in the other sleep training.  I know there's a major wonder week on the horizon and I think disrupted sleep is part of the lead up.  Gonna read tonight and email tomorrow, if you're interested.

Yes I agree with Christine-stick to what has worked for sleep training! I wasn't suggesting you switch just saying what I did.

Charlotte is down to two naps and sometimes one which is not thrilling me. I live those morning naps!

Our swim lessons have kinda screwed up the nap schedule.

I am totally up for mom's night or anything like that. It would also be nice to try to pick a time to get together for a play date. My schedule is pretty wide open.
I am thinking about signing up for movers and Groovers at Isis starting 3/28 at 12:30. Anyone else interested?Has anyone heard any feedback on this class?

Def interested in the sign class. Feel free to pass on info. I looked into movers and grocers but we will be gone for the last week of march/early April so we will miss the first 2 classes. I don't know if its worth it for us to sign up and then miss the first 2...

We are also heading to Baltimore tomorrow through Sunday to meet my new nephew. So I am unfortunately out for Friday. Have fun though!

Thanks, Christine!  We are going to visit my students so we won't be able to come.  I hope you all enjoyed your valentines.

I was just thinking the same thing. Not quite sure I remember. Maybe I should take it again.

Eden! So scary!

I am so glad she is okay! We took the infant CPR class with Isis in May and were very happy with it in case anyone needs a recommendation.

Thanks for sharing your story, I have no doubt that you are pretty shaken by it. As you said, you are lucky to know exactly what to do. I am not at all surprised that your instincts kicked in--well done Mama.

sending much love,
Shirah

Eden

I'm so in love with our house!! It's perfect for us.The move went well. We are now just waiting on a family room and mud room to be finished up. I have to buy some more furniture because we rented our condo as a furnished corporate rental to a Japanese business man. Hopefully by then end of may it will be complete. I  will have a play-date when all is complete. Thanks for asking sandy:-) that's amazing btw that Luke is already walking!

Kristin- thank you for letting me know about a possible tenant. I'm so thankful we found someone though- that would stink paying two mortgages!

Xo,
Diana

I'm glad it went well and you rented your place.  Terrific!  I wouldn't say walking but taking steps here and there. :)
