Greetings! We have a simple project in school where we have to find a way to backup a specific folder into a different selected folder. However, we are having trouble configuring things to meet this goal.

We have Bacularis and Bacula installed on our Ubuntu 24 computer. Do you have an existing guide/tutorial for backing up a specific folder, and its contents, into another folder of our choice? We appreciate the help!

Thank you!

Hello HD,

Welcome to the Bacularis user group.

That sounds like a very nice project in school. Sure, we will help you
with pleasure.

For start I would propose to look at this YouTube playlist called
"Bacula for Everybody!":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVpxCbNYiCs&list=PLNv5fsFzPPNpqG1alq3QVH_C8FZKVNGMY

You already have Bacula and Bacularis so please skip the first two
movies. Next three videos are something that can be useful in this
case because there is shown adding the Bacula storage (in your project
it is something like the destination directory), creating and running
backup job and at the end running restore.

Please note that Bacula stores data not in the original files form but
it stores data on volumes in Bacula format.

Source directory you will be able to set in the Bacula Director
configuration part in the Fileset settings. This directory will be
backed up from the selected in job Bacula client.

In case questions, please let us know.

Best regards,
Marcin Haba (gani)

Hello HD,

In the free package repositories are available packages with the major
releases like 4.0.0. The binary packages with major and minor versions
are available in the subscription repositories. More details about it
you can find in the bacularis.com service.

You can use the latest 4.4.0 if you decide to use other installation
method like:

- installation by PHP Composer
- installation with Docker
- manual installation

All the methods are described in the Bacularis documentation.

Hello HD,

Yes, it is doable. The wizard automates steps that are available in a
few places in Bacularis.

To create a new file storage, please go to Storage page

Add new file device by:
[Main menu] => [Page: Storage] => [Button: Add device]

Add new file autochanger (if you want autochanger) by:
[Main menu] => [Page: Storage] => [Button: Add autochanger]

Add new storage resource on the Director side:
[Main menu] => [Page: Storage] => [Button: Add storage]

To know what to set and where I encourage to visit the Bacula documentation.

For devices and autochangers (on the Storage Daemon side):
https://www.bacula.org/15.0.x-manuals/en/main/Storage_Daemon_Configuratio.html

For storage resource (on the Director side):
https://www.bacula.org/15.0.x-manuals/en/main/Configuring_Director.html#SECTION00231400000000000000000
