As I sit through these weeks of Safer At Home, I decided to sort through some of the yarn I have in my stash. I came across several types of yarn with similar qualities and decided to do a contrast and comparison blog. Below are my observations between Red Heart Yarns Sweet Home and Bernat Blanket Yarn. Please refer to the photos for visual observations throughout.

I started with Sweet Home. It seems a tad lighter and more flimsy in my opinion. It makes a slightly smaller square using the same hook and pattern. There is more flow and movement in the Sweet Home because of that light and flimsy feel.

The density of Bernat Blanket Yarn seems thicker than the Sweet Home yarn and therefore this gives this fiber a somewhat firmer feel. There is less movement in the piece because of the density and firmness.

While comparing these two fibers, I consistently felt they rival one another quite closely. The main difference was felt in the work up of these two fibers with Sweet Home more free-flow whereas the Bernat has more firmness. However, upon washing the consistency is nearly identical in both. I feel these two could work together and be very compatible with no blatant difference. One of the best discoveries of finding two compatible fibers is that it increases your color choices and options when creating with either of these skeins.

UPC codes included in the recall are printed under the barcode on the paper sleeve. Below is a full listing of the color numbers, color names and UPC codes included in the recall.

When the recalled dog eyelid wipes are opened and in use, bacteria and fungi, which are organisms found widely in the environment, soil, and water, can be introduced and grow in the container, posing a risk of serious infection to people with weakened immune systems. Individuals with wounds may also be at higher risk of infection. People with healthy immune systems are not typically affected.

The recalled pet products can contain bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water. People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment. The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.

Below is the yarn I used for this blanket. It was on sale when I bought it, and since then it has been put on clearance and taken off the Michaels website. Sadly, I was told they would not be getting any more in stock.

The yarn I used has shed some, so if you plan to just use the blanket for decoration, then a wool yarn is still a great option. But if you plan to use the blanket often I would recommend a non-wool yarn. Below are some great options!

If you still have more questions (like how much yarn you need, can you wash the blanket, etc) you can also watch the new Q&A video I made below! I hope this video answers all of your questions and gives you the confidence you need to make your own blanket!

Just wanted to thank you for the instructional video about how to make a chunky blanket. Just finished mine and it looks great. Tried several other sites but they were hard to follow. Found yours and it was very user friendly. Again, thank you!

I am very new to this. So please for me being clueless. I have a question that is probably very stupid, but How do you connect your packs of yarn? Thank you for any help you could give me! I have been wanting to make me a big yarn blanket for a while.

I cannot knit with needles, but I found your directions easy to follow. I made a throw and cushion for my granddaughter for Christmas. When my son saw it he asked me to make one for my daughter-in-law. They both loved their throws/blankets. If I can do this, anyone can! Thank you for the great instructions.

This mill complex at Uxbridge had been a hub of manufacturing for Bernat, once based in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. The town of Uxbridge was the site of Bernat's main manufacturing unit in the later 20th century. This was the third largest yarn mill in the U.S. The Bernat mill and the town of Uxbridge have a role in U.S. history, and the history of the American textile manufacturing.

The original mill, the Capron Mill, was built in 1820, by John Capron, the father of Colonel John Capron and anti-slavery champion Effingham Capron on the Mumford River at Uxbridge Center.[2][3] The first power looms for woolens were introduced at the Capron Mills.[4] These were made in a machine shop at Cumberland, Rhode Island.[4] These were reportedly the first power looms ever made for woolens in the U.S.[4] The first manufacture of "satinet" was at this mill. Uxbridge became famous for its Cashmere wool. The period of the Capron Mill, and later as the Bachman Uxbridge Worsted Company was famous for manufacture of clothing and the manufacture of military uniforms for the United States.

The mill was featured in the August 24, 1953, edition of Time magazine, in an article entitled, "The Pride of Uxbridge"[5] as the site of the Bachman Uxbridge Worsted Company, which was then one of the most successful textile mills in New England.[5] The Time article interviewed the CEO of Bachman Uxbridge Worsted Company, Harold Walter. This company had been started by Edward Bachman of New York City, and Harold Walters's father-in-law, Charles Arthur Root, of Uxbridge. This site was the hub of seven plants throughout the U.S., employing 6000 plus workers, and some of its wool synthetic blends dominated the women's fashion industry in the early 1950s.
