Sheesh, I haven't had a problem or an issue in ages, xfce working perfectly. But after my last update of Debian, my volume slider has stopped working. Trying to reinstall I get: "The plugin restarted more than once in the last 60 seconds". I also tried the 'PulseAudio' thingy, but I get: "Establishing connection to PulseAudio" ... and it hangs. The icon in the panel shows up but has an 'X' on it. But 'Pulse' never did work anyway, whereas the older 'xfce4-mixer' always did. But it no longer seems to be available for reinstall in Debian repos. Sound is there, I just can't adjust the volume.
xfce4-mixer was deprecated and no longer being updated so many distros removed it from their repositories (it has seen a revival recently and has been migrated to gtk3 and will probably be available again in the 4.14 Xfce release).
Hi Jerry. Not sure about your jargon, I'm not that adept. What is OP? I have 'pavucontrol' already installed, I think that's the thing that never did work, tho one is never sure what the name of a menu item tells you about the name of the package that installs it, so I could be wrong.
Sorry for being thick: In 'Session and Startup' > 'Application Autostart', 'XFCE Volume Daemon' is already ticked. Do you mean something else, somewhere else? Mean time, I'll see if I can find what Jerry is talking about. What is the notification area?
For the volumeicon option, add a new entry where the name is "volumeicon" and the command is also "volumeicon" (without the quotes). The Xfce Volume Daemon is something else - its for controlling the volume multimedia keys and displaying volume notifications.
After upgrading all apps and rebooting, when starting XFCE it reports "Plugin Audio Mixer unexpectedly left the panel, do you want to restart it?"
It then offers to Execute again, which fails, or Remove.
So no volume control.
Same issue here. I tried removing the plugin but issus remains.
Another issue related the panel: I've action buttons plugin wiht "restart" button; it works well but the icon is missing, it is possibile to fix it or set another icon?
If you build xfce4-mixer from the git tree, master branch (which includes the initial GTK3 port work), it will compile against the newer xfconf and work. Unfortunately, there is no PKGBUILD file for this so you'll need to create one.
Blue Cat's MB-7 Mixer is a unique plug-in that splits the signal into several frequency bands and lets you re-mix and process them as if they were separate tracks: change levels, apply panning, add built-in effects, or even third party plug-ins.
Each band proposes controls that can be found on a mixing console, and more: bypass, mute or solo each band separately to isolate frequencies you want to work on, adjust the gain, the "stereoness" and the position in the stereo field. When manipulating the stereo image, a master mono switch also lets you check mono compatibility.
You can also apply different audio effects to each band to achieve any kind of spectral manipulation: the plug-in can operate as a multiband plug-ins host. You can process each band independently with your favorite VST, VST3 or Audio Unit plug-ins or choose from any of the 28 built-in effects! Up to four plug-ins can be loaded on each band, pre or post fader. It also include 25 built-in audio effects that can be inserted in each plug-in slot. Latency compensation, presets management, undo/redo integration, and individual plug-in bypass are included for optimal operation.
The plug-in also proposes unique linking and grouping options thanks to our multi-instances technology. You can link bands together within a single instance or between several instances of the plug-in on different tracks. This lets a simple fader control as many bands on as many tracks as you want. This is particularly useful when adjusting the placement or the balance of several competing tracks.
And as usual with Blue Cat Audio, the plug-in provides comprehensive visual feedback to let you know what's exactly going on: for each channel, monitor the spectrum, the in/out levels and the frequency response.
Thanks to its advanced MIDI and automation input capabilities, when combined with our other plug-ins, Blue Cat's MB-7 Mixer is capable of advanced side-chaining features that really unveils its potential. Check out our MB-7 Mixer Tutorials for more details.
If you are looking for a simpler plug-in to host VST, VST3 and Audio Unit plug-ins, please try Blue Cat's PatchWork. If you are looking for a multiband dynamics processor that can be combined to this plug-in for side chain effects, check out the Blue Cat's MB-5 Dynamix plug-in. Also, any Blue Cat Audio plug-in is compatible and can be hosted by this plug-in.
Typical applications: Multiband levels correction, multiband VST hosting, spectral enhancement, multiband stereo widening, multiband stereo placement, frequency isolation, spectral manipulation, EQ, spectrum inspection, mastering, spectrum-based side chain effects, apply audio effects to a selected frequency range, VST, VST3 and AU plug-in bridge.
Verdict: 9/10. A clever and genuinely useful plug-in that combines multiple tools to give you an amazing level of control over almost any aspect of any frequency within a sound. Prefect for mixing or sound shaping." - Music Tech Magazine - October 2014
"Ganz still und heimlich wurde hier in Frankreich ein bahnbrechendes Recordingtool erschaffen, die Mglichkeiten sind immens, die Verbindung zu Gruppen ist innovativ und hervorragend gelst. Der MB 7 Mixer ist mal wieder eins dieser Werkzeuge das man dann wenn man es kennt nicht mehr missen mchte. Das es hier eine fetten buenasideas.de Tipp gibt ist mir ein Bedrfniss." - www.buenasideas.de (Germany)
These are precise, almost scientific tools[...]. So, they require time to truly get to grips with. In return, they'll continue to deliver as you explore their depths. [...] Pros: Clever ideas well implemented, Quality multiband processing, MB-7 linking options a nice touch, Cross-band internal sidechaining.
"Still a very useful and inspiring multiband processor, but MB-7 2.0's biggest selling point is its brilliant VST plugin hosting." - Computer Music Magazine - November 2013 - [read review on musicradar].
[... Blue Cat's MB-7 Mixer] might seem an odd idea, but it actually provides alternative ways of implementing a number of fairly common processes.[...] It also has some fresh tricks up its sleeve, and most of these relate to Blue Cat's trademark linking techniques. [...] The possibilities are, quite literally, endless." - Sound On Sound Magazine - July 2011 [Read Full Review]
"Having had the pleasure of working with Patchwork and MB-7, I would most assuredly miss them if they were to disappear from my DAW. Enthusiastic thumbs up for both of these gems. Well done, Blue Cat. Very well done indeed!" - SoundBytes Music Magazine - June 2016 - [full review].
In this example we have four synths, each one going to its own gain/balance control in the Audio Mixer plugin. All the gains are then routed to the first two outputs of the plugin from where they are then connected to the first stereo pair of the audio interface.
On the right, the connection view of a rackspace, you can see that we have a single synth (the Modartt Pianoteq) connected to the Audio Mixer. But now we have four different effects each of which is connected from a different pair of outputs of the Audio Mixer. If you look at the left part of the image, a view of the plugin editor, you can see that the first input (the Pianoteq) is currently being routed to Output 3-4, which represents the Flanger. So by changing the current output routing, you can quickly switch from one effect to another.
In this example, we can instantly route combinations of inputs to combinations of outputs so you can route your piano to the phaser and chorus while routing your pads (ARP 2600) to chorus and echo. By using rackspace variations in Gig Performer you can instantly switch among arbitrary combinations.

You could try building your own mixer using Hi-Computer Chamelion software. This enables you to build a screen with knobs and sliders that transmit midi. Hook that up to an embedded rack with however many audio channels you need and an EQ vst per channel and there you go. A bit messy as Chamelion needs to run outside of Cantabile so would have to share screen space.
At Mastering The Mix, our mission is to help you make confident and precise mixing and mastering decisions. Our unique plugins analyze your audio and provide actionable insights to tackle mixing challenges, simplifying the journey to a great sound.
? Highlight 2: The Trinity Display visual in the lower part of REFERENCE will show you the exact EQ curve you need to use on your track to get it sounding like your reference track.

for me (DuoX, v1.10.0.2142), whenever i have this mixer (currently using the stereo version) in a pedalboard, it operates just fine for a few minutes, but then abruptly stops passing audio. i.e. everything else is feeding audio to the mixer just fine, but the mixer outputs become silent. the meter plugin verifies that the mixer is indeed the point at which signal fails to pass.
