Backblast: Conversion on 4th and goal

Date: Tuesday 10/12/21
AO: Five-Oh
PAX: @Prime, @Heisenberg, @Doubtfire (3)
Q: Doubtfire
Warmup: none
Mary: Converge w/ AO Banksy for PLC

Thang: 4.25 miles, all downhill.

Apparently the route I planned included wide ranging discussion with two philosophical heavyweights. YHC led from behind in cool air that quickly warmed into core concepts: religion, life, death, suffering, sin, yoga, HIIT workouts, teaching, the nature of god. You know, light conversation.

From High Mass to Nursing to the Mahamudra it was deep waters and good chatter at 16 minutes per mile. Prime employed a (Jesuit?) method of incisive inquiry, with pointed questions for each topic. Everyone resisted proselytizing until the very end when Prime got real about F3 and converted us both in the CHS parking lot.

Announcements:

- Try to make time for Saturday at the Bridge Ministry AO, especially if you haven’t been.

- The C’ville Men’s 4 miler is this weekend, raising money for prostate cancer research.

COT: Wisdom from Maya Angelou, a singer, dancer, director, and many other things before she was known as a poet. Aimed at parents but good for any relationship that matters.

It’s easy to check out without realizing it. Angelou suggests intentionally connecting with an important person in your life (child/spouse/etc). Take a moment to look them in the eye and say something positive: “Hey, good to see you, good morning”, etc. Be authentically present with them.

I tried this with my 7 year old daughter. By intentionally directing positive attention towards her I saw that I had been distracted, unintentionally distancing myself. We both benefitted from the brief interaction and it shifted us in a positive direction. Small steps make a big difference.

An honor to lead,

@Doubtfire
