UTLA Chair Elections

Just wondering what happened to the UTLA Chair eletions.  I know it was mentioned 2 faculty meetings ago but then no word since...unless I missed the memo.

 

So aren't we suppost to vote for the Chair for next year....?

Hi Michelle,

I wasn't thinking about it, but after I read your email, I looked up the timeframe. UTLA is supposed to get each school's results on May 16th. I have never known UTLA to be beholding to their date, so if we needed to extend it, that shouldn't be a problem.

The first thing needed is for an election committee of three to be set up and coordinate self-nominations and voting, along with the appropriate timeframes. I would be happy to be one of those three people and even happier to not be one of those three. Either way, getting the ball rolling and getting this done seems to be something we should jump on.

My first suggestion is for three people who would like to be part of the election committee (or at least two, in which case I will help) to respond to your email. From there, these three people can coordinate the rest of the election.

Mrs. Wilson came to talk to me.  She reminded me that we have an election committee in place = Mrs. Molina (who needs to be replaced - Mr. U ...? :) ) Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Roxas.

 

So... when and how will the voting happen?

I will put a self-nomination sheet for UTLA chair in everyone's mailbox today during lunch. If there are no objections, I would like to set the following timeframe:

Self-nomination sheets are due by next Wednesday, May 11 by 3:00pm. Please hand them personally to or into the mailboxes of either Ms. Wilson, Mr. Roxas or myself.

If only one person turns in the self-nomination sheet, the process is taken care of at the conclusion of that step.

If the election is contested (two or more people running for the position), I think having voting going on 30 minutes before school and 20 minutes after on Monday and Tuesday (May 16 and 17) should give everyone opportunity to vote. Votes will be collected  and stored in an envelope, locked in a file cabinet during non-voting times, Votes will be counted on Tuesday (05/17) at 3:05 in the office for anybody wanting to witness the count,

Friday the 13th is a scheduled pd day, if the election is contested, I think we should give the candidates some time to discuss with the staff their interest and qualifications for the position,

I will operate under this timeframe, unless someone raises an objection,
