Offerings

Hello there, I recently did a small day time investigation at Bachelors Grove Cemetery. My team is Appalachian based, but when the area we thought it was a great opportunity. I will share anything I may find in evidence, but wanted to know if there was a reason or what ma be happening with the offerings on the infant grave? I have come across this sometimes before, but my interest was if there is some kind of belief around why others are leaving things or if it is just out of respect. It seems to be a really kind gesture, but stuck out to me for some reason and wondered if there was an information around this. 

I think what was different to me were some of the types of items being left. I know in alot of our cemeteries we will leave pennies, but there was some actual full paper cash being left, It was just different than what I had seen before.

The mass offerings started around 20 years ago. The reasons vary, but over time some of the much younger crowd took to thinking it was necessary and was bad luck not to make an offering. The early years were more focused on leaving money, including paper money, and was witnessed more by the Hispanic culture visiting the area. Again, the reasons vary as to why people leave something and it has taken on a subculture of its own.
