If you have strict religious requirements that may affect your attendance at examinations arranged centrally, you must complete and return the Examination and Religious Observance form. (Major Christian festivals occur during vacations and are usually avoided by examination periods.)

Every effort will be made to accommodate your legitimate religious requirements, including discussing with your School whether it could make an alternative arrangement for the examination if you give adequate notice.

Your personal timetable showing your papers and the dates, times and location at which they will take place will be published online at least two weeks before your first examination. It is your responsibility to ensure that you sit the correct examination and misreading of information will not be considered an acceptable reason for non-attendance.

If you have not received your timetable, or discover any problems such as a clash of papers, contact your college as soon as possible. The majority of in-person examinations take place at either the Examination Schools or Ewert House.

For many programmes on offer at the University, students are provided with an extensive range of modules to choose from. This has several benefits and advantages, but also means that creating an exam timetable can be a very complex process.

Work on the timetable starts 3-4 months before the exam period and involves several different stages and checks. Specialist exam scheduling software is used to try and ensure the best possible timetable is created.

We schedule between 650-900 exams for each main exam period for over 15,000 different students. Due to the complexities it is not possible to avoid students having exams scheduled on consecutive days.

Requests for exams to be moved due to individual availability will not be considered. If you are going to miss an exam due to circumstances out of your control, you will need to submit a PEC form to your academic school.

UCD will make every effort to minimise noise levels while exams are taking place. However, as exam centres are located in busy locations, a completely noise-free environment can't be guaranteed and outside noise may occur at times.

The Examinations Office endeavours to build clash-free timetables. However, due to scheduling complexities, some students may experience more than one examination on the same day, or multiple examinations on consecutive days. Students are expected to prepare for their examinations throughout the semester, and should also be aware that examination loads such as these are possible.

If you have examinations during one of the centrally managed examination periods, you will be able to access your examination timetable via the MyUoB app from the dates given above. This will provide your examination dates, times, duration, location and seat number (if you are sitting the examination on campus).

You may also have examinations during the examination period that have been scheduled by your School. If this is the case, they will be in touch with details regarding your examinations and when and where they will take place.

In the meantime, if you have any urgent queries about School/department scheduled exams please contact your School Education Support Office directly. You can find your School ESO contact details in the following link.

If two of your exams have been scheduled for the same time please contact the Exam office immediately by emailing ex...@contacts.bham.ac.uk. You may have exams with duplicated titles, so please check that the assessment codes for the exams are different before contacting us.

Our schools in different countries are still facing different challenges because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Some have reopened and are now teaching full timetables with no disruption. Others are open but face the disruption of new restrictions and possibly reduced teaching and learning. Other schools have been closed for some time and will remain closed for some time to come, with significant loss of teaching and learning.

It is essential that you use the correct version of the timetable for your zone. If you are unsure which administrative zone your school is in, please check by going to the administrative zone section.

Centres are responsible for making sure they use the correct version of the timetable. We cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam because they have consulted the timetable for the wrong administrative zone.

Sometimes, we need to revise the final timetable after it has been published. Please check the version available on this page regularly. You can find the version number at the bottom of the page of your selected timetable. We will tell you about any changes we make to the timetable in the Exams Officer eNewsletter.

You can get your personalised examination schedule after the exam timetable is announced via the 'Student Information System' and following these paths:

Enroll > Term Information > View my exam schedule > Select Term > Select Display Option.

Please check your examination schedule again nearer the time of the examination in case there are further updates.

Final examination schedules of individual courses can be found under the webpage of Final Examination Schedule. For changes made since the announcement of the Final Examination Timetable, please refer to the 'Summary of Changes' of the same webpage.

A number of sports facilities and student amenities as well as the Shaw Auditorium will be set up temporarily as examination venues during the final examination period. Students should check out the exact location of these venues and how to get there before the final examinations. The special venues are:

Students will be emailed their exam timetable at the end of week 8, and students with Learning Access Plans will receive their personalised timetables (including adjustments) in week 12. Students will need to check their student email account for details.

Online exams that are available to commence over an extended period (indicated by a time and/or date range in their timetable) do not have to start their exam at the beginning of the exam window, but must submit by the due date and time.

If a student experiences technical issues/s which impact their ability to submit an online examination, they must contact the Course Coordinator as soon as possible via email to resolve the issue, and take screenshots of the issue for evidence if required.

Most UniSC centrally scheduled exams will be open book exams. Some courses may have other exam conditions, including closed book exams. Please refer to your course outline for more details regarding your examination conditions.

If you require alternative exam arrangements on the basis of a medical condition and/or ongoing or temporary disabilities, you need to make a telephone call back appointment with an Ability Adviser through Student Hub prior to the end of week 9. Students with Learning Access Plans will receive a standard timetable in week 8, and a personalised timetable, including adjustments, will be emailed in week 12.

If you, through medical or other exceptional circumstances, are unable to attend an examination at the required time, you may apply to sit for a deferred examination by completing the Application for Deferred Examination form.

A deferred examination is a final opportunity for a student to sit their central examination at a specified later date in order to complete requirements for the course. The student must take this opportunity to sit their examination to complete the requirements of the course.

An examination may normally be deferred no more than once (after the original scheduled examination). If you are again unable to undertake the scheduled deferred examination, a further deferral will not normally be granted.

If a student is unable to undertake a deferred examination and they can provide evidence to support exceptional or special circumstances they may submit an application for a Review of Final Grade on the basis of special consideration.

The following are accepted as grounds for approval of a deferred examination by the Director, Student Central (or nominee) provided relevant independent supporting documentation is submitted with the application:

The above exams will take place either on the Mayor Square Campus in NCI or on Moodle. Please note the exam location in the timetable, it is important that students attend the exams in the appropriate location as alternative arrangements will not be available.

For the Semester Two Exam Session, there is a Drop In room that students can book a place in and bring their own device to complete their online exams. Please note that this Drop In is for students completing online exams from the timetable only.

If your modules include an exam, you will automatically be entered for these and we will confirm this is correct with schools. In some cases, your school may contact you to check your module registration.

If you are entitled to extra time we will organise a separate or smaller venue away from the main exam halls. This allows you to work uninterrupted and you will be provided with dedicated invigilation.

If you are entitled to extra time but choose to attend an exam in the main venue (e.g. Sports Centre, Bonar Hall, Accountancy Lecture Room, main Tower IT Suites) you will not be entitled to extra time in that venue. Please make sure that you attend your exam at the correct venue as per your individual timetable.
