Sometimes, with massive amounts of media, I like using the new DNxHR proxy options - like 1/4 or 1/16 of the frame size. These transcode faster, they're smaller files. They don't look great, but are enough to work with and make content decisions.

Sorry - I initially said "rate" and then changed it to "size" within a minute. I meant "size." You can transcode sizes and relink just fine. So if you have raw HD media, and transcode to DNxHR-LB at 1/4 or 1/16 size, you can relink everything later just fine.

That totally worked, thank you so much! The only thing now is when I play loop in trim mode, I get a background still of the outgoing image on the left side of my composer window. But, I'm willing to live with it now that I'm not crashing anymore.

To fix the current issue use a PC and search for "._*" (without quotes) in your media and projects folders. It should return a lot of files. The one you are looking are for files that begins with "._" and ends with a duplicate of a regular file and should have about 4KB file size. For example "._MVI9888.mov". It should also have invisible properties (slightly transparent icon). Delete them.

Hi! I'm in the process of deciding what NLE to get for my work. I've been editing with NewsCutter a-lot when I was working on television (news, infotainment, reality shows...) but now I've started my own business and now I need an editor. I've tried media composer and I must say I dislike working with it's timeline. I really do. NewsCutter is a lot more fluent and quick when working with the timeline. And this is what matters to me most.

So what i'm trying to do is get my sequence, 1 video track and 4 audio tracks, out of avid to Adobe Audition. This sequence is about 8 mins long. I've done this in the past without any problem but all of a sudden i'm experiencing all these errors about exceding 2gb limit among other errors that i can't remember off the top of my head. I've been fooling with this for hours and am super frustrated!

Duplicate your Final seqeunce to a new bin
Delete all video tracks from this duplicate sequence.
Change the Project type to SD
Consolidate this audio only Sequence (with handles) and let Avid make a new sequence in the process.

FWIW For my own media management I set my boot drive as the my Media drive for the consolidate (Before the consolidate my boot drive has no OMFI MediaFiles or Avid MediaFiles folders on it)

Hello everybody im fairly new to avid media composer and i have a question. I want to instal media composer 5.0 on my recently new bought pc. I have a small problem: I have my OS (windows 7 professional 64 bit) running on a Solid state drive (SSD) of 60 gb. I only have 20 gb left on it. But i also have a hdd in my computer which i use to run me other applications on. Can i install avid on this hdd and how do i do this. Because when i want to install media composer it automatically wants to install on my SSD i cant choose a directory to install to.

You should NEVER write media files to your system drive. It has enough work to do just running and managing one of the most demanding applications ever written for a desktop environment, let alone be additionally tasked with creating, storing, retrieving, cueing and seamless real time playback of media stream fragments. You will very quickly overtask the drive and experience many performance related errors, like video and audio underruns, lags in response time, etc. Your media files should be written to a separate drive, either internal, external or a RAID array. In your case, your other HDD.

so it is possible to instal avid on my ssd and use my other drive to store and work off be it media files etcetera? because if this it the case i can instal it and run avid on my ssd and store and import everything on my other drive

Technically, since the SSD is not a spinning disk, there's no "Head Contention". So, the typical issues of performance, by sharing the boot disk/application disk with media, probably don't apply. Meanwhile, even if you install MC (3GB) on a different disk, there really wouldn't be sufficient space for media anyway.

What seems to work (for now) is lowering my video cache settings to around 8GB which should be enough, then media composer uses about 80% of my ram instead of 90% like before. I have 32 gigs in total.

Last week I reinstalled WIN10 and was using a versions of MC2021 with 0 issues then I scaled back to 2018.12.15 for the current long term project I was on and had 0 issues on Friday. Yesterday I start up, tab out of avid, try to go back into it but have to wait 10+ seconds for things to catch up.

There's no question to disable the AMA management as we are supposed to save time using media link which should make the whole media aquisisition process fast, reliable and flawless as any other editing application like première and such, but we are loosing time waiting for media composer to respond when Alt-tabbing or just accidentally clicking out of the media composer window.
