Hi Johnny
Or should I say Hi Junior! 56 is a great age to start sailing an A-Cat. You may not hit the podium but the satisfaction you will get from sailing an A-Cat, believe me is immeasurable. It'll make you feel a little bit like Michael Douglas in Fatal Attraction, You're quite smug when you first have, you want to do it again but are always aware it could bite you in the ass!
You've got a whole year on me Johnny, I bought my first 2 years ago and it's changed my whole lifestyle. I've lost 3 stone, seriously exercise (most days) and hate February and January and any Sunday I can't sail. Most of my web browsing is confined to windguru and checking last weekends club results. I've made many new friends both in the UK and on the Continent where I love to travel and attempt to beat the crap out of them, most time failing dismally but just sometimes finding age doesn't matter when you know what you're doing. In short I've sailed since the age of six and it's taken until now to find the perfect boat.
The A-cat is really a very easy to sail, a very forgiving boat but like most other craft it's just really difficult to get that last 5% (or in my case 25%) out of it. For sure you will always get off the water with the widest grin ever. So now you're old and foolish my best advice is go for it,they're so coooool.
Come and see us at the Ally Pally 2/3 March Stand B3
