Hey All -

We haven't looked in a while, but search engines for elementary students seem fairly inadequate at first blush.

Outside of databases and Google with safesearch on, are there any search engines that you like for elementary students? We took a look at Sweet Search (too adult) and Kiddle (OK), we didn't find much.

Thanks!
Rob and Katie

I'm not sure if this helps; however, for research, students use specific websites for projects with a search feature instead of search engines, e.g., PebbleGo, CultureGrams Kids, and Britannica Kids!

I'd also be interested to hear if anyone has alternatives!

Thanks! We are, too. A search engine is needed for students on the cusp of Middle School researching some fairly current and complex topics. The library databases are a little thin and information on Newsela is dated, so Google seems to be the primary option at the moment. However, the content on Google isn't necessarily geared towards upper elementary for a lot of the topics.
