Good Afternoon!

I would love to get feedback on how schools address students using GenAI tools in 3rd and 4th grade.

We teach a few AI literacy lessons starting in 3rd grade; however, students' use of AI bots and other GenAI tools has increased dramatically this year (we pulled data from our students' accounts to see what sites/tools they've been using) and we want to address this directly with the students—highlighting the issues with companion bots, addressing hallucinations/fact checking, ethical use, and responsible use of tools only with permission or supervision from an adult.

We have guidelines we've created for the faculty and upper school students, but we haven't had to address them with our younger students until now.

Has anyone approached this topic with their students, or seen students using AI tools not meant for their age group?

I would love to hear your thoughts and how you address or identify GenAI use in your younger communities!

Thank you for your input!

Best,

Hi Katty!

We have a curriculum about AI tools in 5th grade (and the ethical design of technology in general) that is co-taught by me (tech) and our Ethics teacher). I would be happy to share resources and tell you about the unit if you want to connect!

Kim
