Doesn't pick up steady signal, even in small house- Returning it
By tofuflex
Got this monitor at a great price and was really looking forward to using it. We have a summer infant video monitor from 2010, but after a few years (and a couple of drops) the audio doesn't work like it once did. Plus, we're having another baby soon and need a monitor that can connect to more than one camera. The lorex seemed like a great solution for a great price.
Unfortunately, I've been using it now for a couple of hours while my daughter naps and it has definitely not performed the way I expected it to. While the daytime video image is good quality, the night vision is quite blurry, not nearly as good as our old summer infant model is even now. More importantly (and a deal breaker for us) our house is only around 1300 sq ft, and the signal has cut out numerous (10+) times with an "Out of Range" error message accompanied by a beep, which I'm sure will be very annoying when we're trying to sleep at night. And this is with the camera and receiver located maybe
35-40 feet away from one another. Not going to work.
So, we're returning the lorex sweet peek to amazon and will continue to look for a new monitor. Very disappointed.

Can a baby monitor do -too- much?
By Bradley Olin
=========UPDATE 5/3/13=========
So we've been using this pretty regularly and I've decided to drop another star from my rating. Why?
The signal strength is proving to be weaker than first reported. We live in an old (read: poorly insulated) house, so signal obstruction should not be a huge issue, but I have found that I cannot even take the monitor out in the front yard (40 feet from the camera, tops) without the signal cutting out. As if the unreliable signal isn't frustrating enough, the device emits a loud and persistent beeping sound when searching for a signal. This includes when the camera itself is turned off. A highly irritating feature.
If they could improve signal reliability in the next go around, I would be more inclined to award a better rating.
=========ORIGINAL REVIEW=========
The last baby monitor we had offered night vision and color images along with monitoring the ambient room temperature.
This thing
just blows it out of the water in terms of...everything really.
Zoom: Really? This is just so cool because if you position the camera right and your kid isn't too squirmy, you can focus in to really see if they're awake or asleep by looking at their eyes and chest movements. Yes.
Sounds: Baby really loves these and they do help her sleep.
Intercom: Our house is pretty small, but it's useful if one of us is in the room checking on the little one and needs something from the other room without having to shout or put baby down.
Night light: Not too bright as to keep our other kid up or light up the room, but it's comforting in a way that's pretty unobtrusive.
Night vision: this is a standard feature on most monitors now. Works fine.
Minor Complaints (star deduction)
Battery life: substantially lower than the 8hrs advertised. We pretty much keep it plugged in at all times when it's in use. Not a big deal really, but I wouldn't go too
long between charges.
Temp Sensor: This seems like it would have been easy to make more obvious and we definitely like knowing if the room temp is just right for baby without having to squint to find the number. Even a three color light indicator system could be useful and could have been integrated into this set.
Range: While the mfr claims 450 feet outdoor, the "real" range depends how many walls you are traversing. I took the unit next door to my neighbor's upstairs unit (about 150 feet away) and the signal was spotty at best. Unless you live on a farm, chances are you'll want the true range explained in more meaningful terms. Otherwise, this limitation really would only apply to people who live in large mansions anyway. In which case you've probably got a nanny on standby outside their room anyway.

Sturdy but Limited
By Maura Ann Rubies
Good aspects of this baby monitor that are different than the other Lorex I own (LW2450): Both pieces feel sturdier-Monitor feels like it could withstand being accidentally dropped. If baby somehow gets to camera, the electronics may have a better chance of survival. There's a night-light on camera and you have option of going completely wireless for the entire system. A rechargeable lithium battery is included in the monitor and the camera allows one to put in 4 AAA batteries.
The Sweet Peek camera is pretty stationary (aside from some raising and lowering of top that one can do manually, and is wall mountable). So, I really missed having the use of LW 2450's Pan/Tilt camera. That one easily pans and tilts (with a toggle button on the handheld) that covers most of our of large bedroom. That Lorex system allows you to add to it a range of cameras (both indoor and outdoor), but this Sweet Peek only allows you to add another fixed Sweet Peek camera, BB2411AC1 (also
found on Amazon).
This Sweet Peek's zoom and minimal pan of the lens can frustrate those that want to use it straightaway without having to learn too much. Though the directions are pretty good (lots of drawings), this system is not as user-friendly as I had hoped. Buttons serve multiple functions and some must be combined with others, so you have to read up on it. For this reason, DO NOT lose the manual.
I was surprised that the clip on the back of monitor did not have a hinge, so that I could prop it up on a desk. Then I noticed that the bottom has two plastic nubs to help it stand straight up on a level surface. If you can, back it up against a wall for additional support. If not, the monitor has a good chance of being knocked over if you aren't real careful.
Also, my son noticed that there was a lag in the sound when I spoke to him through the speaker in the other room (doesn't happen to us if both camera and monitor are in same room). To adjust
to this, I had to hold the talk button button a couple seconds before talking so that the first part of what I was saying was not cut off.
Like the other Lorex previously mentioned, it has night vision and can be set on voice activated (or scan) mode (where the monitor turns on when there's a certain level of noise). Both also display room temperature, play selections of soothing music, and allow you to talk through the speakers. They both include screws/anchors and cable clips (the clips were missing from the Sweet Peek).
The Sweet Peek says "connect from anywhere" on box with images of baby's face on different hardware, but I see no mention of this in the manual that accompanies this product and there's no USB port anywhere on this device.
On the other hand, the other Lorex (LW2450) has a USB port and includes a USB cable for this purpose. It also has a much bigger viewing screen on the hand held monitor that can rest on a charging base to be
charged (so that monitor can be used wirelessly) and a hinged stand on back to be securely propped up. Despite this, the monitor is noticeably thinner than the Sweet Peek and almost the exact same length.
The LW2450 even allows you to record and replay video. It has a much bigger manual that goes into great detail (though I rarely needed it) about its many features, particularly the online access to the camera. It is much more user-friendly with great interactive menus that are easily readable.
This Sweet Peek is a good baby monitor to purchase at the right price. I would have given another star to this Lorex product if it was appropriately priced as a "stripped down" version of the LW2450. We did notice that the color seemed a bit more vivid with the Sweet Peek. This, along with the built-in night light and clothes clip cannot make up for the frustration when trying to access key functions.
Sweet Peek is OK, but there are better Lorex products
available on Amazon.
