LOVE this monitor! Compared to the Motorola MP36, it's far superior.

I absolutely love this monitor! We previously owned a Summer BestView monitor purchased in 2009 (which still worked great until last week when my dad broke the parent unit) so when it was time to buy a new monitor, Summer was at the top of my list. Still, because this monitor was so new and there weren't any reviews, I decided to buy and try the Motorola MP36 since I needed a monitor ASAP. While acceptable as a monitor, I wasn't thrilled with it and so 3 days later we returned it and purchased the Dual View. The Dual View is far superior to the Motorola in terms of it's video image, parent unit and price.
The 1st thing about the Dual View that impressed me was the quality of the image. It was crystal clear even when in night vision. I can easily see details on my infant's crib sheet and see his chest moving up and down as he's breathing. It's so clear that you don't even need to utilize the zoom function to see breathing mvmt. The Motorola's image quality was inferior
to the Dual View (DV). Unlike the Motorola where movement appears delayed and seems to lag, on the DV I can see when and how my infant moves in real time. There is no delay and his movements are not staggered or jumpy. I found the delay very annoying on the Motorola so this was a huge plus for me with the Summer DV.
I am also a fan of the DV's parent unit. It is incredibly light weight, user-friendly, and most importantly 4AM sleep-deprived parent-friendly. It also has a stand that also functions as a clip so you can clip it to your pocket or pants.. I find this useful bc I'm not usually sitting with the monitor next to me since I have another child so I'm often moving from room to room or out in the backyard. The buttons on the DV parent unit are raised (unlike Motorola) and easy to find. The volume control is on the side so no need to scroll through menus or press extra buttons. It is easy to change to split-screen using 1 button that is on the side. When in
split-screen mode, you can also easily toggle the audio between the rooms. The buttons needed to move the camera (since it pans up/down and side to side) are also user-friendly and intuitive. On the Motorola my husband and I had difficulty finding the on/off switch in the middle of the night bc it was flush with the unit. Also, controlling the volume required going into a menu as did zooming. The Motorola display wasn't backlit so finding the button you needed in the dark while your 4-month old was screaming in the other room, threatening to wake up your 4 yo in yet another rooom, was not fun.
The price of this monitor is great considering that you get 2 cameras. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the Summer Dual View monitor. If I had to complain, it would be that I wish that the sound wasn't so loud when on the lowest setting but this is minor and it's only an issue when the baby is crying/screaming. The only feature missing is a temperature display. The Summer DV
had virtually everything we were looking for and more. A great purchase and I would recommend this monitor without hesitation. Also, Summer Infant has great customer service if you ever need to call them. I needed a new adapter cable for my previous monitor and they mailed it to me free of charge.

Great dual view WITH sound on all cameras.

I'm so glad I called Summer Customer Service after reading these reviews. I could not figure out how to hear sound when the monitor is on in 2 rooms. I read the reviews here and some also stated their frustration about needing sound in both rooms, so I assumed that was it. So I called Customer Service wanting to return the product, and they told me there is an option for the camera to go from room-to-room every 8 seconds. So there is no problem with my toddler or infant waking in the middle of the night, & me not knowing about it.
I also live in a 4,000 sq ft house. My children are on the second floor on the opposite side of the house, & I have zero problem with reception.
And for those having "no signal" issues, I started experiencing this after a few years with my single monitor. I called customer service and they were happy to "make it right."
The battery life doesn't bother me either. I keep it plugged in all night, then not at all during the
day. The Customer Service rep told me what I was doing was fine for the battery life. And I don't have to plug it in during the day anyways since my toddler only naps 2 hours. And I brought this up to Customer Service, asking about this, and they said they'd be happy to mail me a new battery if I need one.
Basically, before selling this product short because of technical issues, at least call their Customer Service first.
As for the product itself, I am satisfied with being able to see both kids' rooms & hear them in my multi-level home.

Exactly what I was looking for! I am so pleased with this dual video monitor; it is making our nights much more worry-free.
Previously I've been using Summer's Best View video monitor with 2 cameras, which still works great going on 3 years, but I really wanted something I could see and hear 2 rooms at the same time. I purchased a second camera when baby #2 came along, but I really didn't like that I had to manually switch the camera back and forth to see/hear-this didn't work well during the night. I tried using an audio only monitor along with this system for one of the rooms, but the feedback was so terrible (even across the room), most nights my husband would end up turning it off. Then I found this!
I actually purchased the other Summer model of the dual monitor first. It didn't have the 2-way talk feature and at the time was $30 cheaper, so I went with it. Well, when I got it set up I realized it didn't have a pan option. My previous camera did, so I
was spoiled to that and really missed it (works great when the baby/child starts moving around-you will need it!). The second issue was the automatic mute feature. Horrible. In concept it sounds awesome, but it doesn't work that great. It mutes until the baby/child makes a sound, then the audio turns on. Well, if your baby moans or cries out once (like a teething or uncomfortable baby does) it doesn't pick it up. It also didn't pick up when my 2 year old climbed out of bed and opened his door. My previous monitor did, there is an audible "click", so I would know when he was up for the morning. This happened 2 mornings in a row, and that was enough for me. It wasn't serving its purpose of helping me monitor my children, so it went back. I was really disappointed and didn't have much hope for this one, but ordered it anyway expecting to send it right back. Oh what a fantastic surprise!!
This model is exactly what I wanted and had hoped for. It pans, zooms 2x (my best view
only zoomed 1x) and DOESN'T HAVE THE AUTOMATIC MUTE FEATURE! Hooray! I can hear everything, which is exactly what I want in a monitor. The video is really clear and quite impressive compared to my Best View, which I thought was pretty good to begin with. The scan feature works exactly as it should, I set it on scan when I go to bed at night and can hear if either of my children need me. The 2-way talk feature is actually pretty fun, although I didn't think necessary, but glad we have it now. We live in a 2200 sq. foot house with a split floor plan, so my children's rooms are on the opposite side of the house from mine. No issues with range, I have been able to use it upstairs, in the garage, and even outside as long as I don't go too far (it won't work the full extent of our 1 acre yard but makes it about halfway). Another review said this monitor won't work if you live in a house, but mine does, so I wanted to give specs.
There are only two cons in my opinion: price, and
battery life. It is an expensive purchase, but well worth it for my wants and needs. Knowing I can hear both of my children in the middle of the night if they need me, or are just tossing and turning, I want to know! and now I can. As other reviews have stated, the battery life is pretty poor. My Best View couldn't make it through the entire night, so I am already used to having it plugged in on my night stand-not a big deal for me. The battery on the dual view will last about 2-4 hours tops, depending on how much you have the video turned on. It works for us, since nap times are usually about 2-3 hours during the day and that is when I need it unplugged and mobile the most.
I can't recommend this dual video monitor enough! Having 2 children 14 months apart can have a lot of stressful moments, but this video monitor gives me peace of mind to get some sleep at night, and bills/chores/etc. done during nap time because I know that if they need me, I will know without
hesitation. Thank you Summer for making this product...keep up the good work! Oh, and if I can talk my husband into expanding our family...you can add 2 more cameras to this system for a total of 4! :)
