Is there a centralised phone book facility that can be used by Yealink handsets?

I have a client who has around 40 Yealink handsets and wants a centralised phone book.

I have seen a phone book facility in the properties of Devices, but this looks like a list specific to that device whereas my client wants a common address book. Updating 40 devices every time something changes would not be fun! I also tried adding an entry into this phone book but could not see how to access it from the handset itself.

Any suggestions on a centralised phone book that can be accessed directly from the handset? Preferrably something easy for users to access and administrators to edit.

Hi Allan,
If you upload the contacts to one device and then make the contact global, this will be available to all the devices on the domain.
cheers

Hi James,

I have already tried that but still can't see the addresses on the handset. Any idea how I would view these on the handset?

Hi Allan,

I’ve got a T28 here in front of me and I can see there is a soft button from the main screen for directory, I imagine others in the range are different, I believe on the T20’s there is a dedicated contacts button the icon is a book.

But for the contacts to be downloaded to the phones it does require the phones to be auto-provisioned.

Hope this helps,
Jay

Thanks Jay,

The client also uses T28 handsets so that is encouraging.

Auto-provisioning only appears to work with certain models of Yealink, so that is probably why I am not seeing the directory on my T27 which refuses to auto-provision, as does the T19 which another large client uses extensively.

I assume that once the handset is auto-provisioned, the directory on the handset is kept up to date? It does not need to be re-auto-provisioned for the directory to be updated?

Regarding the directory itself, I saw the "Global" checkbox and wondered where the master directory is kept. Do you choose one extension and the directory on that extension is the global directory?

Hi Allan,

Yes once auto-provisioned the phone will have the other extensions on the domain and the phonebook for that device, accessible from the phone. With the Yealinks they do not send updates back if the contact directory is edited locally on the phone, but updates made in the babblevoice console will be push to the phone on a reboot. So this is a one way system unfortunately.

If you are wanting all contacts to be global then yes just select one extension and use that as the global phone book.

Kind Regards,
Jay
